THE COMPANY

Tua Rita is a winery located in Val di Cornia and is internationally renowned for the excellent quality of its wines and particularly for some of its labels, such as Merlot Redigaffi. Entrepreneur Rita Tua and her husband Virgilio Bisti purchased the land in 1984 with the intention of moving to a place where they could live close to nature, cultivating their own land. Thanks to their unbridled passion for wine, they grew from the original 2 hectares of vineyard to the current 30. Simply named by reversing the owner's first and last name, Tua Rita represents one of the first successful Italian realities developed on the “vin de garage” model, where all production processes are conducted completely autonomously and artisanally: small productions obtained with rigor, expertise, and seriousness.
The training system for the vines of Tua Rita alternates between simple spur cordon and double spur cordon. The protection of the vines follows the methods of organic farming with the goal of helping the plants defend themselves, ensuring the health of the environment and the soil. The use of plant protection products is indeed abolished. The soil where the vines grow is mainly composed of skeleton, clay, silt, and sand and is rich in micro-minerals. The territorial characteristics of the Metalliferous Hills give the wines of Tua Rita original iron notes and a nice saline character.
In the winery, where the spaces have been recently renovated, interventions are limited and minimally invasive. The selected grapes undergo a soft pressing and are then left to ferment in wooden vats. Once fermentation is complete, the wine is transferred by gravity into the barriques located below the winemaking rooms. Here, aging is carried out for at least 18 months. This results in wines where quality meets tradition, artisan expressions without compromise from the generous Maremma territory.
