The mane of a goddess-volcano adorns the label. Its delicate colors represent the shades found on the smoking mouth of the highest active volcano in Europe. An ancient, powerful, and feminine deity: “the Mountain,” as the locals call Mount Etna. “On the Volcano” is a declaration of love: a pure, fragrant, and elegant wine that captures the energy of this unique place located in the heart of the Mediterranean.
THE COMPANY
The nameDonnafugata, "woman on the run," refers to the story of Queen Maria Carolina, wife of Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, who in the early 1800s - fled from Naples due to the arrival of Napoleon's troops - took refuge in that part of Sicily where the company’s vineyards are located today. This event inspired the company logo, which features the image of a woman's head with wind-blown hair that appears on every bottle. The winery is located in the heart of Western Sicily where the vineyards are an integral part of the landscape. Donnafugata It cultivates a variety of grape varieties, both native and international, in 10 different districts. This agronomic choice aims to enhance the characteristics of the different terroirs (soil, altitude, exposure) and the various varieties to produce complex wines rich in personality.

Donnafugata He cultivates his vineyards in the territory of Acate. Overall, the company can count on 36 hectares, divided into 3 subregions: Biddine Soprana, Biddine Sottana, and Isola Cavaliere. The grapes grown are Nero d'Avola and Frappato. Nero d'Avola, the king of Sicilian red grape varieties, is the most widespread in Sicily, thanks to its strong ability to interact with the environment. In the area of Vittoria, it expresses itself with a medium structure and particularly fine tannins. Frappato is one of the oldest Sicilian varieties, which loves the typical climate of the Doc Vittoria territories. A wine that stands out for its fragrance and floral notes. Extremely pleasant on the palate and delicately tannic.
