The Barbera d'Alba 'Peiragal' from Marchesi di Barolo originates from hills with good slopes made up of large formations of very compact clayey limestone soil, with large stones. These conditions limit the absorption of rainwater and promote a very deep rooting of the vines. The result is a wine that is quite structured, with moderate acidity, well-balanced alcohol content, and sweet tannins that are never too prominent. It ages for over 9 months, partly in small French oak barrels and partly in traditional large casks, before being blended in a single tank. A light woody note combines with a wide range of aromas and flavors, enhancing its complexity in a harmonious sensation of pleasantness. The maturation plateau is between 2 and 5 years.

Marchesi di Barolo

In the heart of the picturesque hilly landscape of the Langhe, where the morning fog envelops the rows in a silent embrace, stands the prestigious winery Marchesi di Barolo. With roots that go back to 1807, this historic winery is a pillar of Piedmontese wine tradition, a silent witness to the transformation of Barolo into one of the most famous wines in the world.
Located in the village of Barolo, Marchesi di Barolo skillfully cultivates the Nebbiolo grape, the beating heart of its most iconic labels. Here, the land intertwines with history, giving rise to wines that are the result of a perfect balance between tradition and innovation. The winery has managed to combine ancient wisdom with modern winemaking techniques, while maintaining a deep respect for the territory and its peculiarities.
Among the gems of the production, the Cannubi and the Sarmassa stand out, two Barolo that embody the very essence of these lands. The Cannubi, with its velvety tones and a complexity that reveals itself slowly, tells of sun-drenched hills and breezes that caress the vineyards. The Sarmassa, on the other hand, surprises with its firm structure and intense aromas, a dance of fragrances that evokes the richness of the land from which it comes.
Every sip of a Marchesi di Barolo wine is an invitation to immerse yourself in Piedmontese wine culture, a journey through the history and traditions of a unique territory. THE COMPANY

Marchesi di Barolo is a winery with a centuries-old history of over 150 years and still represents a symbolic and reference brand in the vast world of Piedmontese winemaking. The winery is located in the municipality of Barolo, a tiny village of less than 700 inhabitants where the extraordinary Castle of the Marchesi stands. It is a centuries-old palace that symbolizes and gives rise to Barolo.
In 1807, Marquis Carlo Tancredi Falletti married the French noblewoman Juliette Colbert Maulévrier, a descendant of the Sun King. Juliette was the first to realize the potential of Nebbiolo grown in these lands and noticed how the use of wooden barrels added depth and longevity to the wine. After her husband's death in the late 1800s, lacking heirs, the estate was first managed by his wife and then taken over by Pietro and Ernesto Abbona, two young men who worked in the cellars at the foot of the castle.
After five generations, the Marchesi di Barolo are still led by the Abbona family. The Marchesi di Barolo winery spans 200 hectares and has vineyards not only in the Langhe but also in Roero and Monferrato. Marchesi di Barolo aims to create unique and high-quality wines that interpret the diversity of the places and are faithful representatives of vintage, territory, and grapes.
