The Barbaresco DOCG Serragrilli 2019 by Marchesi di Barolo comes from the Serragrilli vineyards in Neive, set on a gentle hill with south-west exposure, where Nebbiolo grapes enjoy long hours of sunlight until late evening, allowing slow and complete ripening. The 2019 vintage, balanced and regular, produced grapes with refined aromas and solid structure. Traditional vinification is followed by 9 months of aging in oak barrels of different sizes, enhancing elegance while preserving varietal character, before careful bottle aging. On the nose, aromas of wild violet emerge alongside floral nuances and delicate spicy notes of cinnamon and nutmeg. The palate is full-bodied yet harmonious, with soft, well-integrated tannins and a long, persistent finish that ensures excellent aging potential. Ideal with red meats, braised dishes, game, and aged cheeses.

THE COMPANY

Marchesi di Barolo is a winery with a centuries-old history of over 150 years and still represents a symbolic and reference brand in the vast world of Piedmontese winemaking. The winery is located in the municipality of Barolo, a tiny village of less than 700 inhabitants where the extraordinary Castle of the Marchesi stands. This is a centuries-old palace that is the symbol and the genesis of Barolo.

In 1807, Marquis Carlo Tancredi Falletti married the French noblewoman Juliette Colbert Maulévrier, a descendant of the Sun King. Juliette was the first to realize the potential of Nebbiolo grown in these lands and noted how the use of wooden barrels added depth and longevity to the wine. After her husband's death in the late 1800s, without heirs, the estate was first managed by his wife and then taken over by Pietro and Ernesto Abbona, two young men who worked in the cellars at the foot of the castle.

After five generations, the Marchesi di Barolo is still led by the Abbona family. The Marchesi di Barolo winery spans 200 hectares and has land not only in the Langhe but also in Roero and Monferrato. Marchesi di Barolo aims to create unique, high-quality wines that interpret the diversity of the places and faithfully reflect the vintage, territory, and grapes.
