THE COMPANY
When talking about Pinot Noir in Italy, it is essential to reference the winery Gottardi, a reality that materialized in 1986 when a wine merchant from Innsbruck - namely Bruno Gottardi from Trentino - managed to realize a long-cherished dream by purchasing six hectares of vineyards in the now-famous Mazzon area, considered the Italian paradise of Pinot Noir. After carefully restoring the rows and building a modern winemaking cellar, the first vintage was bottled in 1995, which immediately established itself at very high quality levels. Currently, with about nine hectares of vineyard, the company is owned and managed by Alexander Gottardi, who has transformed the high standards achieved in the past into a constant challenge for improvement and future developments. Among the rows, the plants grow in soils rich in sandstone and limestone, enjoy a particularly favorable microclimate, and are cultivated with full respect for the environment, nature, and ecosystem. After a brief period from 2006 to 2009 during which Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer were also produced, the maximum attention is currently focused exclusively on the pinot noir variety, whose grapes are treated in the least invasive way possible. In the cellar, the movements of the wine occur by gravity, fermentations are carried out in open oak vats, and aging is performed for a year in barriques. This way, a great Pinot Noir is created, recognized for years as one of the best in Italy, pure and integral in its fruit, elegant and refined, highly true to the varietal and the territory, as well as long and profound in every subtle organoleptic nuance. A Pinot Noir, that of Gottardi, a flagship of the most excellent winemaking not only in Trentino Alto Adige but throughout the entire Peninsula.
