The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 'Vicoregio 36' by Mazzei originates from the vineyard of the same name, where 36 biotypes of Sangiovese have been planted, the result of 50 years of research and study on this grape variety. The vineyard is located in Castelnuovo Berardenga, on a plateau that is very well illuminated throughout the day, at an altitude of 350 s.l.m, and is characterized by large temperature fluctuations between day and night and by soil composed of alberese and sandstone. The result is a Chianti Classico Gran Selezione where Sangiovese expresses itself in its warmest version: with intensity, richness of color, and pronounced bouquet.

The land that hosts their vineyards is a true masterpiece of nature. Here, on the gentle Tuscan hills, Sangiovese finds its purest expression, accompanied by the noble Cabernet Sauvignon. THE WINE
The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 'Vicoregio 36' by Mazzei comes from the vineyard of the same name where 36 biotypes of Sangiovese have been planted, the result of 50 years of research and study on this grape variety. The vineyard is located in Castelnuovo Berardenga, on a plateau that is very well lit throughout the day, at an altitude of 350 s.l.m, and is characterized by large temperature variations between day and night, as well as a soil composed of alberese and sandstone. The result is a Chianti Classico Gran Selezione where Sangiovese expresses itself in the warmest version: with intensity, richness of color, and pronounced bouquet.
THE COMPANY
The Marchesi Mazzei family boasts an unparalleled legacy immersed in the Tuscan winemaking tradition. Their story indeed begins many centuries ago, in the medieval village of Castello di Fonterutoli, and continues for 24 generations. A village, that of Fonterutoli, overlooking the Val d’Elsa, which has belonged to the Mazzei family since 1435 and still retains its original appearance as a quiet countryside village: a few houses, the church of San Miniato, and the villa built at the end of the 1500s in place of the fortified castle.
The estate is located a few kilometers south of Castellina, in the heart of Chianti Classico, and includes over six hundred hectares of land, of which more than a hundred are planted with vineyards situated in the most beautiful areas of the denomination: Fonterutoli, Siepi, Badiola, Belvedere, and Caggio. Vineyards that have made the history of Chianti Classico, predominantly cultivated with Sangiovese, a variety that has found its ideal land here, capable of expressing great aromas and elegance in the higher areas, and structure and power in the lower ones. It is therefore no coincidence that Castello di Fonterutoli is considered one of the most significant estates in all of Chianti Classico, always aimed at seeking new qualitative frontiers, both in the vineyard and in the cellar. A work and a path that have led the wines of the Castle to be renowned worldwide and to become a reference point for all of Chianti Classico.
But it doesn't stop there: the propensity for seeking new challenges and the continuous pursuit of excellence have driven the Mazzei family to expand their horizons towards new frontiers in viticulture and winemaking, beyond Chianti Classico, also in the Tuscan Maremma, with Tenuta Belguardo, and in Sicily with Tenuta Zisola. These realities today produce wines with a clear territorial imprint, true ambassadors of their respective denominations.
