Château Ferrière

In the heart of Margaux, Château Ferrière embodies the noble tradition of Bordeaux winemaking combined with a fresh, modern, and sustainable vision. Founded in the 18th century by Gabriel Ferrière and ranked Troisième Grand Cru Classéin the 1855 classification, it has long been synonymous with elegance and precision. Today, under the passionate leadership of Claire Villars-Lurton, the estate spans around 24 hectares, blessed with deep gravel soils over a limestone base and vines averaging 45–50 years of age.
Its winemaking philosophy is rooted in the utmost respect for the terroir: certified organic since 2015 and biodynamic since 2018 under Demeter and Biodyvin standards. In the vineyard, yields are kept low to ensure aromatic depth and structure; in the cellar, each plot is vinified separately in concrete vats, wooden tanks, and concrete eggs, with spontaneous fermentations and ageing for about 18 months in French oak barrels, complemented by a portion in amphorae.
The current planting favours Cabernet Sauvignon (around 51%), alongside Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. The result is a Margaux of rare finesse: an intense bouquet of dark berries, violet, and sweet spices, a taut and harmonious palate, silky tannins, and a long, mineral, vibrant finish.
Alongside the Grand Vin, the second wine Les Remparts de Ferrière offers a more approachable interpretation of the estate’s style. Both wines carry a distinctive personality, capable of maturing gracefully in the cellar and pairing beautifully with fine meat dishes, game, and aged cheeses.
For those seeking the authentic charm of Margaux combined with the rigour of ethical winemaking, Château Ferrière stands as a prestigious choice, now also available on Vino45.
