The Toscana Rosso 'Sassoalloro' by Tenuta Castello di Montepò, owned by Jacopo Biondi Santi, is a red wine of great charm that tells the entire vision of the winery since its first harvest. A Sangiovese that has been selected from the historic family estate where the famous Brunello di Montalcino is produced, and which has been planted in this wonderful corner of Tuscany, not far from Scansano. Vinified in steel, it matures for just over a year in barrique before an additional aging in the bottle. Deep fruity and spicy aromas, with notes of cherry and raspberry, followed by balsamic and herbal notes. Soft and elegant, fresh with well-integrated tannins in a solid structure. Heir to a legendary winemaking tradition, Jacopo Biondi Santi has managed to imprint his distinctive mark, combining respect for family heritage with a modern and enterprising approach. The winery is located in one of the most fascinating areas of Tuscany, known for its wild beauty and ability to produce wines with a strong personality.

The IGT Toscana designation allows for a certain stylistic freedom, which Jacopo Biondi Santi leverages to create wines that tell stories of passion and commitment. THE WINE
The Tuscany Red 'Sassoalloro' by Tenuta Castello di Montepò, owned by Jacopo Biondi Santi, is a red wine of great charm, which tells the story of the winery from its very first vintage. A Sangiovese that has been selected from the historic family estate where the famous Brunello di Montalcino is produced and which has been planted in this wonderful corner of Tuscany, not far from Scansano. Fermented in steel, it matures for just over a year in barriques before an additional resting period in the bottle. Deep fruity and spicy aromas, with notes of cherry and raspberry, followed by balsamic and herbal notes. Soft and elegant, fresh with well-integrated tannins in a solid structure. An elegant red wine with a strong territorial adherence, suitable for any occasion.
THE COMPANY

Jacopo Biondi Santi is the heir and the continuer of one of the most illustrious names in Italian wine. He is indeed the son of Franco, the gentleman of Brunello, who made the Tenuta il Greppo in Montalcino a great international reference point. Today, alongside the famous estate in Montalcino, Jacopo also manages the vast estates of the historic Castello di Montepò, south of Grosseto, in the heart of Maremma. This is a subjective and personal challenge that began in 1991, leading to linear and immediately understandable territorial interpretations, representing an international and modern style. On one hand, Jacopo is aware of being part of one of the most historic families linked to the world of wine in Italy, while on the other hand, an enterprising personality takes flight, wanting to express his future vision beyond a glorious past, putting his distinct entrepreneurial skills to the test.
The winery of Castello di Montepò by Jacopo Biondi Santi has a truly remarkable extent of nearly 220 hectares of vineyards. The vineyards stretch across a hilly and pedocollinar area, starting from the north and east towards the Albinia plain and the Tyrrhenian coast. Each plot obviously has different exposures and altitudes, which can reach up to 500 meters. The microclimate is generally ventilated and dry, with significant temperature variations between day and night, ideal for promoting quality viticulture. The subsoils show a remarkable mineral richness, characterized by a strong presence of schists. Among the rows, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and, of course, Sangiovese are cultivated, the grape variety that has brought fortune to the family. Each operation among the rows is followed and monitored with great attention by the winery team, as is the case in every phase of vinification and aging.
The winery Jacopo Biondi Santi is a reality that each year produces several high-level reds, the result of the high viticultural potential of the Maremma area. The Castello di Montepò represents one of the oldest and most important historical testimonies of the territory, also known by the novelist Graham Greene, and the produced labels retain this unmistakably Tuscan charm. Among the various bottles, the “Sassoalloro” elegantly interprets Sangiovese, offering a rich and noble sip at the same time.
