THE WINE
The Barolo 'Monfalletto' from Cordero di Montezemolo is a historic wine of the estate made from the careful blending of most of the Monfalletto vineyards in the municipality of La Morra. The age of the vines ranges from 15 to 50 years, with exposures strictly between South/East and South/West, which confer fine productions and harmonious maturation. The clayey and slightly calcareous soil gives elegance and complexity. Magnesium and manganese oxides present in the soil facilitate the maturation of dense and very soft tannins. Altitude between 250 and 300 m.s.l.m.
The age of the vines ranges from 15 to 50 years, with exposures strictly between South/East and South/West, which confer fine productions and harmonious maturation. Each vineyard with uniform characteristics (exposure, age, soil, planting density, clones…) is harvested and vinified separately. All the various lots undergo a maturation period in various types of wood, both French and Slavonian, for a period between 18 and 24 months, after which the final blending and bottling takes place. After a year, the bottles are ready for marketing. An aristocratic wine that pairs wonderfully with game and wildfowl, civet hare, braised beef, chamois, saddle of roe deer, wild boar, venison, and partridges. Superb with dishes enriched with Alba White Truffle: thistle pie with fondue and duck ravioli.
THE ESTATE
Currently, there have been 19 generations managing the Monfalletto property in the municipality of La Morra since 1340, at the center of the Barolo wine production area. The winery is located in the fabulous terroir of the Langhe, in the heart of the lands of Barolo, known for the production of wines that have made Piedmont famous all over the world.
Even today, the property of Cordero di Montezemolo by the Monfalletto family is fully family-run. Giovanni Cordero di Montezemolo and his children Elena and Alberto are the protagonists of this millennium.
The historic unique body, rare for the area, of 28 hectares of vineyard extends over all sides of the hill and has always been cultivated with different local varieties, selected and planted differently according to sun exposure, soil type, and altitude.
A continuous search and experimentation with modern winemaking techniques, respect for the environment, and the biodiversity of the land are the values that constantly guide this reality. The wines of Cordero di Montezemolo have been exported and appreciated all over the world over the years, perfectly representing the essence of the Barolo area.
