THE MAISON

It all begins in 1743, when Claude Moët founds a Maison in his own name after a long experience first as a vigneron and later as a cellar master. He starts distributing his wines in Paris outside the Champagne region at a time that coincided with the growing demand for sparkling wine: the success is immediate, so much so that in a short time Moët Champagne becomes the most appreciated at the court of the King of France and by the end of the 18th century is exported throughout Europe and to the United States of America. The growth continues with his grandson Jean Remy, who acquires new lands, expands the cellars, and builds a real commercial network that reaches famous clients such as Thomas Jefferson and Napoleon Bonaparte. Subsequently, Remy will leave the management of Moët to his son Victor and son-in-law Pierre Gabriel Chandon, from whom the current name of the Maison, Moët & Chandon Champagne, derives.
