Argentina is the most important wine-growing country in South America and has ten wine-growing regions concentrated in the west between the Cafayate valley in the north and Patagonia in the south. The most important grape variety in the country is Malbec. Argentina is home to the vineyards with the highest altitudes in the world. The vine arrived in Argentina with the first Spanish settlers in 1541.
