The Valdarno di Sopra 'Bòggina A' by Petrolo is a pure Sangiovese that looks to the past: since the 2011 vintage, Petrolo has been experimenting with the vinification of a batch of Bòggina Sangiovese in 300-liter terracotta amphorae, with a skin maceration in the air, which means a simple punching down of the cap, lasting no more than 2 weeks, after which the amphora is hermetically sealed with the skins still inside. The choice of amphora has a historical dimension of returning to Tuscan cultural origins. A juicy and pleasant red that once again confirms the great capabilities of Petrolo.

THE ESTATE

The Petrolo winery is located in the province of Arezzo, in the municipality of Mercatale Valdarno, among the green Tuscan hills. The estate was part of the Galatrona fiefdom in the Middle Ages, as evidenced by the ancient tower, from which the wines Petrolo take their name, and the parish church that houses a baptismal font by Giovanni della Robbia. Owned by the Bazzocchi-Sanjust family for four generations, the Petrolo estate extends over more than 270 hectares, of which about thirty are currently planted with vines, while twenty are dedicated to olive cultivation. Since the second half of the 1980s, the goal of the Petrolo winery has been the absolute quality of the wines produced, starting from understanding and interpreting the enormous potential of the territory. Today, the rows are managed according to organic farming standards. A complete and harmonious range of labels, expressive and particularly faithful to the terroir of origin, as well as continuously striving for the highest quality levels. Simply extraordinary wines.
