Fontanafredda

In the heart of the Langhe, in a land that sings stories of nobility and tradition, stands the historic estate of Fontanafredda. Founded by Emanuele di Mirafiore, son of the first King of Italy, this winery is a symbol of Piedmontese winemaking excellence. Its soul is intertwined with the foggy hills of Serralunga d'Alba, where Nebbiolo reigns supreme and the vines tell the story of a unique and fascinating territory.
Fontanafredda is a journey through time, a place where tradition meets modernity through a constant commitment to sustainability and the enhancement of the Langhe terroir. Here, grapes such as Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, and Barbera are cultivated with respect and passion, transforming into wines that celebrate the land and climate that nourish them. The Barolo Serralunga, the main label of the winery, presents itself with a complexity and depth that enchant the senses, offering aromas of withered roses, licorice, and spices.
Every sip of Fontanafredda is an invitation to discover the beauty and richness of Piedmont, a dance of flavors and aromas that tell the story of a timeless place. Explore on Vino45 the fine labels of Fontanafredda and let yourself be carried away on a wine journey through the hills of the Langhe, where tradition meets innovation in a rare embrace of harmony.

160 YEARS OF SUCCESS AND A LOOK TO THE FUTURE
Serralunga d'Alba, June 14, 2018 - "If you really love me, gift me that outfit!"- These must have been the words that Rosa Vercellana, a young woman of humble origins, known as "Bela Rusin", uttered in front of the then sovereign of the Kingdom of Sardinia, asking for 52 hectares in Serralunga d'Alba as a token of love." Fontanafredda. It was 1858 and, while united Italy was taking shape in the minds of Cavour, Garibaldi, and a handful of idealistic patriots, King Vittorio Emanuele II was falling madly in love with a peasant girl with curvy shapes and long raven-black hair.
So, 160 years ago, was born Fontanafredda, which today seems to be the center of the world of viticulture and enology in Langa. Thus, in the name of love, the winery recently named "European Winery of the Year" by the prestigious magazine Wine Enthusiast wanted to celebrate this important anniversary over the last 3 days with its best customers and partners who came from every region of Italy and the world. In the magical context of a historical reenactment that literally brought to life the characters that animated the village in the mid-1800s, foremost among them Vittorio, Rosina, and Cavour, Oscar Farinetti himself guided the guests to discover the many novelties of a company that, over the last ten years, has literally transformed its image.
And if it's true that, quoting Andrea Bocelli, guest of the cultural foundation Mirafiore of Fontanafredda, "Love is everything, the engine of life, its fire..." one can truly say that Fontanafredda I have taken the words of the great tenor to heart. Fontanafredda, Indeed, it arises from love, which is also the deep meaning of its philosophy.
Love for one's origins and history, celebrated through the creation of a museum inaugurated during the festivities, and of a... collection of historical reserves of Barolo, from 1982 to 2010, with limited edition labels that highlight the key moments of the last 160 years of the winery..
Love and pride for one's wines, in a great revival of style and packaging, to reinterpret tradition in a more contemporary way. Thus, the latest reserve is born. Barolo 2010, dedicated to the one hundred and sixty years and presented as a world premiere.
Love for the 120 hectares that make up the company's heritage, which provided the impetus for the creation of the first "Narrative Village" in Italy, where every glimpse, every attraction, and every building is described through extensive signage distributed throughout the park and associated with a multimedia app.
Love for the unique land of Langa, which has required a great effort to obtain the official certification related to organic farming practices. Because organic is not just a demand from many markets that are now starting to delist non-organic wines, but also an act of respect towards future generations.
Love for traditions and the beauty of the landscape, following which Fontanafredda is carrying out the work related to the Diffused Hotel "Le Case dei Conti." Mirafiore"which, within a few years, will enhance the current accommodation offering of 25 rooms with two new facilities located in the beautiful farmhouses of the sharecroppers, in the heart of the best vineyards, for a total of 60 rooms and a spa."
160 years of history, marked by deep values and principles, are now written and have made Fontanafredda a unique reality in the Italian wine scene. Now, it is about facing the future with optimism and proactivity, approaching national and international markets with an innovative attitude, open to change and the challenges of a reality still to be discovered. As Oscar Farinetti, who has been leading the winery for 10 years, has repeated several times, "The Italian wine market is doing well and is set to grow: the numbers say so, first and foremost the average price of bottles, which is continuously rising. But there is still much to be done: Italy is currently the largest wine producer in the world, and that quantity should not be increased too much. What we need to do is focus on the average price, certainly working on the quality of the wine, but also on cleanliness and especially on intangible values, telling the 99.17% of the world's citizens who are not Italian about our unique terroir, our history, and our traditions. It seems that there is nothing to translate in your message. THE COMPANY
Historic winery immersed in the enchanting hills of the Langhe, FontanafreddaIt originates from the estates of Roggeri Giacomo in Serralunga d'Alba, later included in the private property of Vittorio Emanuele II, King of Sardinia, in 1858. However, it was Emanuele Guerrieri Count of... Mirafiore, the king's son, to start the business activity, twenty years later, in 1878, thanks to his strong passion, initiative, and foresight. Today Fontanafredda It covers about 122 hectares, of which 84 are cultivated with vineyards and divided among the most prestigious municipalities in the area of BaroloSerralunga d'Alba, Barolo and Diano d’Alba. The estate also includes the historic cellars, from the Villa Real and from a large nature reserve. Today Fontanafredda belongs to the Vino Libero association, a group of 12 wine producers and 1 distillery, united by the goal of developing sustainable agriculture, combined with a continuous research process aimed at safeguarding nature and minimizing intervention in the vineyard and in the cellar: among others are the experiments of Fontanafredda aimed at limiting the use of sulfur dioxide. The winery vineyards live in a vibrant and diverse ecosystem, the soils are worked using the technique of controlled cover cropping, without the use of chemical fertilizers or herbicides, but only organic substances. A company that still continues to make history in Piedmont today.
