The Champagne Brut 'Cuvée Saint-Petersbourg' by Veuve Clicquot was created to remember the enterprise of Madame Clicquot who, already in the early years of the 1800s, exported her prestigious bottles to Russia. The cuvée is made from a selection of grapes from 50-60 parcels, Grand Cru or Premier Cru, with a predominance of Pinot Noir, which gives structure and expressive depth, complemented by Chardonnay and Meunier. At the end of the first fermentation, a percentage of 30-45% of reserve wines is added, which gives the blend maturity and complexity. The second fermentation, lasting 4 or 5 years, occurs in the bottle. This Champagne has great aromatic intensity and freshness, is harmonious and rich, with a long and deep sip that anticipates a finish of lively freshness.

THE WINE
The Champagne Brut 'Cuvée Saint-Petersbourg' by Veuve Clicquot was created to commemorate the entrepreneurial spirit of Madame Clicquot, who in the early 1800s was already exporting her prestigious bottles to Russia. The cuvée is made from a selection of grapes from 50-60 plots, Grand Cru or Premier Cru, with a predominance of Pinot Noir that provides structure and expressive depth, integrated with Chardonnay and Meunier. At the end of the first fermentation, a percentage of 30-45% of reserve wines is added, lending maturity and complexity to the blend. The second fermentation, lasting 4 or 5 years, occurs in the bottle. This Champagne is characterized by great aromatic intensity and freshness, harmonious and rich, with a long and deep sip that anticipates a finish of lively freshness.
THE MAISON

Everything began in 1772, when Philippe Clicquot, a businessman and landowner, founded “un négoce de vin à l’enseigne Clicquot.” A small enterprise aimed at crossing borders to introduce the new name of Champagne to the entire world. In 1798, François Clicquot, son of the founder of the Maison, married Barbe Nicole Ponsardin. It was she who, after inheriting from her husband all the passion and expertise in the production and marketing of Champagne, managed to grow the business into one of the most famous and renowned Maisons not only in the Reims area but throughout the Champagne region. Barbe Nicole Ponsardin, in fact, became a widow at just twenty-seven years old, and after her husband's death, she took firmly the reins of the company, becoming one of the first great female entrepreneurs in modern history, known to all by the title of “widow Clicquot,” or “Veuve Clicquot,” from which the name of the Maison itself derives.
Under the guidance of the young widow, several insights benefited the entire denomination. From the first vintage Champagne, that of 1810, to the perfection of the remuage technique, and the development of the liqueur de tirage useful for the second fermentation in the bottle, there was no aspect that she did not personally oversee.
Not to mention her great commercial acumen, thanks to which Barbe Nicole Ponsardin was able in 1814 to overcome the continental blockade that immobilized Europe in trade, successfully landing her Champagne directly in Russia, in San Petersburg, with what is now known as the “cuvée Saint Petersbourg.”
In short, a story of excellence that continues today, under the auspices of the luxury group LVMH, which has owned the Maison since 1986, thanks to Champagne with a unique personality, always recognizable for their immediate elegance and extraordinary refinement.
