THE WINE
The 'Poggio della Costa' by Sergio Mottura is a white wine with a broad and fruity aroma, a warm, fresh, and persistent taste. Versatile, it pairs well with flavorful dishes such as pasta and beans, spelt and chickpeas, lasagna, spaghetti alla carbonara and all'amatriciana, cod Livornese style, and ossibuchi alla milanese. It was also chosen by Gambero Rosso as the best Italian wine for asparagus.
THE COMPANY
One hundred thirty hectares, of which 36 are cultivated with vines, extend between the clay hills of Civitella d'Agliano and the Umbrian plain washed by the Tiber. We are located in the province of Viterbo, in an area dedicated to viticulture since 1292, as evidenced by some historical archive documents. The estate Mottura has belonged to the eponymous family since 1933 and has been managed since the 1960s by Sergio Mottura, under whose guidance the company has undergone significant phases of renewal, both in terms of new replanting and in the activities of the winery. Following the principles of organic farming, the relentless pursuit of maximum ecological balance represents one of the company’s beliefs, and even in the winery, the vinification excludes any chemical intervention, resulting in the most natural processes possible. By reevaluating indigenous grape varieties and carrying out practical field experimentation, the wines of Sergio Mottura are rich, intoxicating, persistent, vigorous, and enveloping. Unique and excellent labels, starting from “Latour a Civitella,” the first white wine from Lazio ever awarded the recognition of 3 glasses by the Gambero Rosso guide on “Wines of Italy.”
