THE WINE

The Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe 'Château Lafite Rothschild' is the most expensive wine in the world. First among the first in the history of the crus classés in 1855 in the Bordeaux area, lord of the gravelly land of Pauillac. It was born in France in Pauillac in 1670 and by the early 1700s was one of the most exclusive fine wines served at the court of French King Louis XV, so much so that it earned the title of “le vin du Roi,” the wine of the King, attributed to it by Cardinal Richelieu. Today, the vineyard Chateau Lafite Rothschild is about 100 hectares, but only one third of the production is reserved for the grand vin.
THE COMPANY
Owner of Château Lafite Rothschild for five generations, the Rothschild family has been associated with the vineyards of Bordeaux since 1868 and today owns Châteaux Lafite Rothschild, Duhart Milon, L'Evangile, and Rieussec.
In addition to the wines produced from their prestigious vineyards, the Barons de Rothschild have for many years created a range of more accessible wines for everyday consumption. Initially created at the request of family and friends, these were known as "Réserves des Barons." Continuing this tradition, Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) has decided to produce the Réserves in four major Bordeaux appellations: Bordeaux, Bordeaux Blanc, Médoc, and Pauillac. In creating the Collection, DBR (Lafite) aims to offer classic Bordeaux wines with immediate appeal.
