Pinot Noir 'Illusion' 2021 (750 ml.) - Meyer-Nakel

Pinot Noir 'Illusion' by Meyer-Näkel is a white wine produced from Pinot Noir grapes vinified in white. He was born in Germany on an estate located in the Ahr river valley. It is a Blanc de Noir, a white wine obtained from a soft pressing of red grapes, without subsequent maceration on the skins. The free-run must is then vinified off-white with fermentation in steel tanks and a small percentage in barriques. Six months aging in steel on fine lees. The result is a rich and enveloping wine on the palate, where the warm notes of yellow pulp fruit are well balanced by a clear flavor, while on the nose the aromas of apple, peach and pear and the light citrus and iodine scents create a perfect balance between freshness and intensity. Meyer-Näkel is based in Dernau, in the Ahr valley, a splendid wine region devoted to Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder). Located at the same latitude as Bonn, it is one of the most northern regions for red wines. Werner Näkel, who left his job as a high school teacher to take care of the family business, revolutionized the way Pinot Noir was produced in the region in the early 1980s, bringing the company to the highest quality levels. Its grand crus, Grosses Gewächs, are high-end wines characterized by extreme finesse, precision and perfect dosage of wood. The company is today led by Dörte and Meike Näkel, Werner's daughters, who continue the path traced by their father.
