The Barbera d'Alba Superiore 'Funtani' by Cordero di Montezemolo originates from vineyards located near an old water spring at the foot of the slope. A very sunny position, old vines, and a natural production of few clusters per plant are the foundations of this product. First made in 1998, it aims to express the noblest and most complex potential of this extraordinary Piedmontese grape variety. A production of a few thousand bottles follows a wood aging process of over a year, after which there is an additional year of rest in the bottle. Sublime when young but also to be appreciated at 12-15 years and beyond.

THE WINE
The Barbera d'Alba Superiore 'Funtani' by Cordero di Montezemolo comes from vineyards located near an old water spring at the foot of the slope. A very sunny position, old vines, and a natural production of few bunches per plant are the foundations of this product. First made in 1998, it aims to express the most noble and complex potential of this extraordinary Piedmontese grape variety. A production of a few thousand bottles follows a maturation process in wood of over a year, followed by an additional year of aging in the bottle. Sublime when young but also to be appreciated at 12-15 years and beyond.
THE COMPANY
Currently, there have been 19 generations since 1340 that have succeeded each other in the management of the Monfalletto property in the municipality of La Morra, at the center of the Barolo wine production area. The winery is located in the fabulous terroir of the Langhe, at the heart of the Barolo lands, known for producing the wines that have made Piedmont famous worldwide.
Even today, the property of Cordero di Montezemolo by the Monfalletto family is entirely family-managed. Giovanni Cordero di Montezemolo and his children Elena and Alberto are the protagonists of this millennium.
The historic unique body, rare for the area, of 28 hectares of vineyard extends over all the slopes of the hill and has always been cultivated with different local varieties, selected and planted differently depending on sun exposure, soil type, and altitude.
A continuous search and experimentation with modern winemaking techniques, respect for the environment, and the biodiversity of the territory are the values that constantly guide this reality. The wines of Cordero di Montezemolo have been exported and appreciated worldwide over the years, perfectly representing the reality of the Barolo area.
