Pure Malt whiskeys, also called Vatted Malt or Blended Malt, represent a rather rare category of pure barley malt whiskeys, born from the blending of only Single Malts produced by one or more distilleries. Their first invention is attributed to the merchant Andrew Usher who, in 1850, mixed the contents of his reserves to obtain a softer, more pleasant and balanced distillate. This type has had great success in Japan in recent years and has led to the production of very soft and elegant pure malt whiskeys, able to compete with the oldest and most traditional expressions of Scotland.
