Nestled in the prestigious Saint-Émilion appellation, Château de Ferrand stands as one of Bordeaux's most storied and elegant estates. Founded in the early 18th century by Elie De Bétoulaud—a lawyer, poet, patron of the arts and close confidant to King Louis XIV—the château was envisioned as a tribute to the grandeur of Versailles. Its construction included ornate architecture, hidden tunnels, and vast grounds, all designed to mirror the refinement of royal life.
In 1978, a new chapter began with the acquisition by the Bich family, renowned for the iconic Bic brand. Following the baron's passing, the estate remained within the family and is now led by Pauline Bich Chandon-Moët and her husband Philippe Chandon-Moët, heirs to two of France's most illustrious lineages. Since 2010, the couple has driven a remarkable transformation: replanting based on detailed ampelographic studies, tailoring grape varieties to the unique terroir, introducing sustainable viticulture, and upgrading cellar facilities with precision-focused vinification tools.
Their vision was validated in 2012, when Château de Ferrand earned its status as a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé. Today, the estate spans 42 hectares, with 32 under vine planted with Merlot (70%), Cabernet Franc (29%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (1%)—each parcel cultivated with meticulous care and forward-thinking strategy.
