Terre Siciliane Perricone IGT 'Capoarso' 2022 (750 ml.) Pellegrino

Perricone ‘Capoarso’ is a rustic and juicy red wine, crafted by the historic Pellegrino winery, now led by the sixth generation of the family. Made from 100% Perricone grapes sourced from various vineyards across western Sicily, including a 2.5-hectare plot at Tenuta Gazzerotta, where vines grow on mineral-rich clay soils at 50 meters above sea level. The warm, breezy climate with strong diurnal temperature swings enhances aromatic complexity. After harvest, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel, followed by a long skin maceration and at least 5 months of aging in both steel and oak barrels. In the glass, it shows a bright ruby hue with notes of red berries, violet, rose, spices, and balsamic hints. On the palate, it is flavorful, savory, and well-structured, with firm yet balanced tannins. A wine that reflects tradition, terroir, and sustainability.

Color: Intense ruby red, crossed by light purple reflections that suggest its youth and vitality. The tone is compact, bright, a sign of good concentration and integrity of the fruit.

Bouquet: Rich and seductive, where notes of ripe berries such as blackberry and blackcurrant stand out, accompanied by spicy nuances of black pepper and cloves. Balsamic nuances and hints of Mediterranean scrub also emerge, with a slightly toasted background that recalls the brief passage in wood.

Taste: Full and structured, with an enveloping sip supported by tannins that are well present but already smooth. The freshness balances the generous alcoholic component, offering a harmonious and persistent progression. The finish is long, with returns of dark fruit and sweet spices, which confirm the varietal identity of Perricone in a modern and territorial key.
