The Carmenère from Tenuta San Leonardo, labeled as Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT, comes from a careful hand selection of grapes grown in the estate’s vineyards, located at 150–200 meters elevation. The gravelly, well-drained soils, paired with the mild alpine climate, encourage slow, full ripening, enhancing varietal character. Fermentation takes place in unlined cement vats, with about 15 days of maceration, allowing gentle extraction of aroma and structure. The wine then ages for 18 months in French oak barriques, followed by at least 12 months in bottle, achieving complexity and balance. The result is a red wine of great character and elegance, with notes of black pepper, wild berries, cocoa, and subtle balsamic hints, silky tannins, and a long, enveloping finish.
