Toscana IGT Syrah 'Keir' 2020 (750 ml.) - Tua Rita

'Keir' by Tua Rita is a complex wine, an absolute novelty. It is in fact the first production of this winery with vinification on the skins in amphora for 6 months. A method that is lost in the history of wine culture, as it is well known, it has the strength and privilege of best enhancing the varietal characteristics of the vine. This pure Syrah spends another 6 months in 3rd and 4th passage French wooden barriques; finally it rests in the bottle for a few months. Bouquet with hints of ripe plums, cherries and crushed dark berries, while on the palate it reveals a lively freshness, gentle tannins and a firm structure. Hints of bacon and tobacco smoke combined with hints of blackberry and blackcurrant that persist for a long time. Limited production.

Tua Rita is a winery located in Val di Cornia and which enjoys international fame for the excellent quality of its wines and in particular of some of its labels, such as Merlot Redigaffi. The entrepreneur Rita Tua and her husband Virgilio Bisti bought those lands in 1984 with the intention of moving to a place where they could live in contact with nature, cultivating their own land. Thanks to their irrepressible passion for wine, from the original 2 hectares of vineyards they arrived at the current 30. So called simply by inverting the owner's name and surname, the Tua Rita winery represents one of the first successful Italian realities developed on the model of the "vin de garage", in which all the production processes are carried out entirely in an autonomous and artisanal way: small productions obtained with rigor, competence and seriousness.

The training system of the Tua Rita vines alternates simple spurred cordon with double spurred cordon. The defense of the vines follows the methods of organic agriculture with the aim of helping the plants to defend themselves, first of all guaranteeing the health of the environment and the land. In fact, the use of plant protection products has been abolished. The soil on which the vines grow is mainly composed of skeleton, clay, silt and sand and is rich in mineral microelements. The territorial characteristics of the Metalliferous Hills give Tua Rita wines original ferrous notes and a nice saline character.

In the cellar, where the premises have been recently renovated, the interventions are limited and not very invasive. The selected grapes undergo a soft pressing and are then left to ferment in wooden vats. Once the vinification is complete, the wine arrives by gravity in the barriques located under the vinification rooms. Here the refinement is carried out for at least 18 months. In this way wines are obtained where quality and tradition meet, artisanal and uncompromising expressions of the generous Maremma area.
