Cotarella
In the suggestive crossroads between Lazio and Umbria, where tradition meets innovation, the Cotarella winery comes to life. Born from the creative flair of a family of world-famous winemakers, with Riccardo Cotarella at the helm, this winemaking reality has become a point of reference for those seeking elegant and modern wines, capable of captivating the most demanding palates at an international level.
Immersed in the lush hilly landscapes of these two Italian regions, Cotarella has been able to capture the essence of the territory, producing wines that celebrate the IGP Umbria and Lazio denominations. The varieties of grapes grown, from Grechetto to Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, reflect a wise combination of local tradition and openness to the most appreciated international varieties. These grapes, cared for with passion and respect for the environment, give rise to wines that stand out for their distinctive character and uncompromising quality.
Among the winery's flagship labels, Montiano and Sodale stand out as authentic expressions of the Cotarella signature style. Montiano, with its complexity and aromatic depth, reveals itself as a wine of great charm and structure, while Sodale enchants with its elegance and softness, representing a perfect balance between tradition and modernity.

THE WINE
Le Macioche is a Montalcino winery active since the early 1980s and today managed by the Cotarella family, in particular by the three cousins Dominga, Enrica and Marta. In this entirely female management, the spirit, experience and efficiency of one of the most important families in the history of wine in Italy are embodied, which translate into the concrete production of high quality labels. The Le Macioche winery was founded by the Mazzocchi family, choosing a name which, in the Sienese dialect, indicates the roots of the strawberry tree, a plant very present on the estate. Starting from the 2017 harvest, the production bears the signature of the important Cotarella family, which in the meantime has converted the entire estate to organic farming. All the vines were planted in the early 1980s and rest on hilly terrain rich in clay, with outcrops of marl rocks. These conditions, together with the altitude of 450 meters and the south-east and south-west exposures, contribute to the production of Sangiovese grapes with great potential. The top-level winemaking management translates this great potential into high expressions of the territory: wines with character, substance and structure, always marked by elegance and balance. Le Macioche wines strongly and confidently express the personality that Sangiovese assumes in the Montalcino area. The Brunello labels are austere, important and rich in extract, with the typical aromatic richness of the southern side of the appellation. These are reds aged in large oak barrels, as tradition dictates, and which require a long refinement in the bottle to express themselves at their best. The ability of the Cotarella family is clearly recognizable by the desire to adapt the great oenological skills to the typicality of the Ilinese territory, focusing on uncompromising quality and achieving great results.
