Gruner Veltliner 'Kalkvogel' 2020 (750 ml.) Herbert Zillinger

Gruner Veltliner 'Kalkvogel' by Zillinger is a pure Grüner Veltliner that is produced in Weinviertel, in Styria, in the north-east of Lower Austria. The vineyards are 10-25 years old and the production is strictly organic. White wine with a distinctly Austrian character: fresh, mineral, based on one of the most iconic vines of this nation, Veltliner. The Kalkvogel is a version aged for 1 year in acacia barrels. On the nose, hints of citrus meet hints of toasting as well as the typical hints of wet stone. The sip is tense, of great freshness and great flavor. An exuberant and very energetic wine, a perfect example of a very fascinating terroir. Total production 2,500 bottles.

Herbert Zillinger

In the picturesque landscape of the Weinviertel, one of Austria's most fascinating wine regions, the Herbert Zillinger winery stands as a beacon of innovation and passion. Here, among the rolling hills and vineyards that stretch as far as the eye can see, Zillinger has carved out a leading role in the natural wine scene, embracing a production philosophy that favors the purity and complexity of flavors.

The Weinviertel region is renowned for its ability to create white wines of extraordinary intensity, thanks to a unique microclimate and particularly suitable soils. It is in this context that Herbert Zillinger devotedly cultivates his vineyards, mainly Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, two varieties that lend themselves magnificently to the expression of the territorial peculiarities. His obsessive attention to detail and respect for nature are reflected in every phase of the production process, from the vineyard to the cellar.

Among the standout labels, Radikal and Reflexion stand out as true works of winemaking art. Radikal, with its bold structure and enveloping aromas, embodies the strong character of Grüner Veltliner, while Reflexion, with its fresh and vibrant notes, offers a refined interpretation of Riesling. These wines are not just drinks, but sensory experiences that tell a story of land, sun and expert hands.

We invite all enthusiasts to discover Herbert Zillinger's extraordinary creations on Vino45. A journey to discover an authentic and surprising Austrian winemaking, capable of exciting with every sip.
