Gavi 'Monterotondo' by Villa Sparina is one of the winery's flagship labels, the highest expression of Gavi, made in a limited number of bottles only and exclusively with the best grapes from the old vines of the homonymous cru. The Monterotondo parcel has always been known for the production of superior quality grapes. It is an elegant and refined Cortese, with a long aging potential, aged for at least 2 years in steel and wood in the historic cellars. Seductive bouquet with its aromas of albiocca, acacia flowers, hints of spices and a typical chalky tone. On the palate it is balanced, harmonious and complex, imbued with freshness and minerality, fading into aromatic references. It is a glass that perfectly interprets the Gavi terroir.

THE COMPANY
To tell about Villa Sparina, the best starting point are its cellars: the large vaults dating back to the eighteenth century that extend into the basement of the Estate are living testimony of its wine-making past and of how today this vocation continues to be expressed in its bottles. The Villa, once owned by the Marquises Franzoni of Genoa, experienced a new oenological impetus when in 1954 it was purchased by the Moccagatta family, which made it a real pearl in the hills of Monterotondo. The estate's first harvest dates back to 1974 and since then its production has been characterized by a strong focus on uncompromising quality, which has allowed it to define a clear identity with every sip.
Villa Sparina has about 100 hectares of property that surround the estate, of which about 65 of vines surrounded by woods. Here, under the rays of the sun and caressed by the breezes coming from the Ligurian Sea, the native varieties of Cortese and Barbera ripen which, thanks to modern and creative winemaking processes, give life to an elegant, surprising and long-lived production, which over the years has become the best representation of the winery. The Moccagatta family has in fact rebuilt the strong historical identity of the Villa, drawing on its past and laying the foundations for a solid future.
The unmistakable and territorial style of Villa Sparina recurs not only in the continuous search for excellence harvest after harvest, but also - literally - in its bottles. Their particular shape, inspired by ancient bottles found during the renovation of the Estate, is at the full service of the substance: round but with a good structure, harmonious and characteristic like the nectar they host. Even the choice of color is not left to chance, but recalls that typical of the ripening of Cortese grapes and confirms the strongest philosophy of the Villa: wine is a creative principle. Thanks to this belief, the winery has been able to invest with technique in its continuous innovation, continually trying to honor the vineyard and its fruits.
