Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 'Fosso Cancelli' by Ciavolich was created in 2007 from the strong desire to create a wine of great craftsmanship and tradition. The name recalls the ditch that delimits the oldest vineyards of the Loreto Aprutino estate where the Montepulciano grapes are selected and harvested. The hand-picked grapes are pressed in the ancient press. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts without temperature control. Rest 1 year in cement fermentation tanks. Aged at least 3 years in bottle. It is powerful, full of character and extremely balanced, intense in color, red with slight garnet reflections, aromas of black cherry, undergrowth and resin and hints of jam and licorice. Ideal with red meats, mature cheeses and first courses of the land. Approximately 6,000 bottles are produced, numbered on the label.

Ciavolich
In the heart of the wine-growing Abruzzo, between sun-kissed hills and breezes that descend from the Gran Sasso to meet the Adriatic Sea, stands the Ciavolich winery, a company deeply tied to its history and its territory. The origins of the family date back to the 16th century, when the Ciavolich family, wool merchants of Bulgarian origin, settled in Miglianico, starting an agricultural tradition destined to last for centuries.
The first family winery was born in 1853, built to vinify the grapes grown on the property's land. Today this long legacy is in the hands of Chiara Ciavolich, who leads the company with passion, elegance and a contemporary vision, renewing every day the commitment to authentic and quality viticulture.
The beating heart of the estate is now located in Contrada Salmacina, in Loreto Aprutino, in one of the most suitable areas of Abruzzo for the cultivation of vines. Here, at 250 meters above sea level, the vineyards enjoy an ideal climate: mild, bright, constantly ventilated and with marked temperature variations. The clayey, silty and sandy soils offer perfect conditions for the ripening of healthy bunches, rich in aromas and structure.
The vines that are the symbol of Abruzzo's identity are grown between the rows: the intense and vibrant Montepulciano, the fresh and harmonious Trebbiano, and the Pecorino, an ancient variety now rediscovered for its aroma and minerality. Each label tells the story of a generous land and of a family that has guarded its soul for over 150 years.
Vino45 is proud to offer Ciavolich wines, to offer its customers an authentic journey through the hills of Abruzzo, where history, territory and passion blend in every glass.

THE COMPANY
Ciavolich is a family-run business that has been cultivating vineyards in Abruzzo for generations. The family’s history is very ancient. Wool merchants of Bulgarian origin, the Ciavolichs arrived in Italy during the 16th century and settled in the town of Miglianico. The first winery was created in 1853, to vinify the grapes from their own land. Over the generations, the estate has expanded especially in the wonderful area of Loreto Aprutino. Today the estate is managed by Chiara, who carries on the family tradition with passion and expertise. The core of the company has moved to Loreto Aprutino, in Contrada Salmacina, in one of the areas of Abruzzo most suited to viticulture, in a hilly area at 250 meters above sea level, a few kilometers from the Gran Sasso massif and the Calderone glacier, as well as from the Adriatic coast. The climate is mild and sunny, very bright and always windy, with significant temperature variations between day and night temperatures. The soils are clayey and silty in nature, with the presence of sand, very suitable for high-quality viticulture. In these favorable conditions, the vines bring to maturity perfectly healthy bunches, with very rich and intense aromas. The vines historically present in the area are grown between the rows, in particular Pecorino, Trebbiano and Montepulciano.
