The Piemonte DOC Albarossa 'Albarone' 2017 by Marco Bonfante is the flagship of the winery. Born from the Albarossa grape, created in 1938 by Prof. Giovanni Dalmasso by crossing Nebbiolo di Dronero and Barbera, it is a rarity produced in purity by very few estates. After careful selection, part of the grapes undergo appassimento and are blended at crushing with those left to ripen on the vine. It then ages 24 months in small French oak barrels, gaining elegance and complexity. The nose shows aromas of blackberry, ripe plum, spices, and cocoa; the palate is fleshy, tannic yet velvety, with concentrated fruit and remarkable persistence. Perfect with braised meats, game, and aged cheeses, it is a long-lived wine of great structure.

THE COMPANY

The Bonfante family has been producing wines in Nizza Monferrato (AT), Piedmont, for eight generations, in an area that represents the excellence zone for Barbera d'Asti production, which obtained the “Nizza DOCG” designation in 2014. It is a family-run business. The owner Marco Bonfante, a graduate of the Enological School of Alba, is a winemaker and takes care of production and overall business management. He is assisted by consulting enologist Gianluca Scaglione, agronomist Daniele Eberle, and his sister Micaela Bonfante, who handles administrative management and logistics organization. The company offers an image of quality and seriousness, thanks to hard work, in Italy and especially abroad. It took just a few harvests for it to become a strongly representative reality of this territory. In addition to the vineyards in Nizza Monferrato, the best grapes from other areas of the region contribute to a rich and versatile range representative of the most prestigious denominations of southern Piedmont. The produced grapes come from managed vineyards and selected vineyards, thanks to an intense and thriving “nègoce” activity. All farming operations are monitored by the company agronomist until the harvest. In the vineyard, thinning (also known as green harvesting) is carried out to reduce the production of the plant and improve the quality of the grapes.
