Cottanera
In the magical setting of the Etna volcano, where the earth tells ancient stories of lava and fire, stands the Cottanera winery, an oenological jewel of Sicily. Here, the wild and untamed nature of Etna meets the expert hand of the winemakers, giving life to wines that are the very essence of this unique and fascinating territory. Cottanera, with its passion for viticulture, has quickly established itself as one of the most solid and promising realities of Etna, celebrated for its ability to combine precision, freshness and a strong territorial identity.
Cottanera's production philosophy is a hymn to tradition, but with an eye to the future. The winery embraces sustainable viticulture, respecting the volcanic nature of the soils and enhancing the peculiarities of the native grapes of the territory. Nerello Mascalese and Carricante are the varieties that dominate the vineyards, cultivated with care and dedication, to best express the minerality and complexity of the Etna terroir.
Among the main labels, Etna Rosso Contrada Zottorinotto stands out, a wine that embodies the elegance and structure typical of Nerello Mascalese, with aromatic notes that evoke berries, spices and an unmistakable touch of flint. Every sip is a sensory journey through the slopes of Etna, an experience that tells of breathtaking landscapes and winemaking traditions handed down from generation to generation.
We invite every enthusiast to discover the extraordinary labels of Cottanera on Vino45, an opportunity to immerse yourself in the volcanic magic of Etna and be seduced by wines of rare authenticity and character.

THE COMPANY
To be included among those that are today the most important, even by extension, companies in the Etna area, that of Cottanera is a wine-making reality that was born as a hazelnut grove in the early 1960s, thanks to the work of the grandfather of the current owners, Francesco Cambria.
We are at an altitude of about seven hundred meters above sea level, in the Catania municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia, in a beautiful area on the northern side of the volcano, characterized by a territorial context particularly suited to agriculture, an ideal condition for conversion to a vineyard. started in the early 70s, and continued decisively in the 90s. It is in that period, in fact, that all the plots have seen a progressive modernization, with the entry of varieties including international ones, and it is also in that period that the company park has reached the current one hundred hectares, of which about 65 are currently planted with vineyards.
Among the rows, the autochthonous carricante, nerello mascalese and inzolia grapes grow alongside syrah, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and merlot grapes. Vines grown in full respect of nature, environment and ecosystem, produce valuable, pure, rich and concentrated fruits in all their organoleptic nuances. Bunches that in the cellar are interpreted in the sign of those that are the most ancient local traditions, enhancing and enhancing all that the territory and the season have created.
Those that are produced today by the Castiglione di Sicilia winery are wines with a strong modern character, at the same time as fascinating as they are elegant in revealing their unmistakable Sicilian soul.
