After an eclipse between the 1930s and the mid-1970s, production resumed as soon as André Mentzelopoulos arrived. in 1977. The quality of the Pavillon Rouge came very close to that of the first wine because the textures that compose it participated, not long ago, in the blending of Château Margaux. The aromas are close and the balance in the mouth comes from the same subtle balance of power and sweetness. It is usually ready to drink a little earlier while having excellent aging potential well beyond 30 or 40 years.

THE WINE

THE COMPANY
Château Margaux has existed since at least the 12th century, but it is in the second half of the 1500s that it became known for its wine production thanks to Pierre de Lestonnac who, after buying the estate, decided to implement the cultivation of the vine. At the beginning of the eighteenth century, the company already had about 265 hectares, of which a third dedicated to viticulture, an extension that roughly corresponds to the current one. From management to management, it was in 1810 that the Marquis of Colonilla Bertrand Duat ordered the construction of the castle with neo-Palladian features, which can still be admired today, but it is above all in 1977 that the arrival of the Greek magician André Mentzelopoulos brought huge investments , calling into question prominent professionals such as the oenologist Emile Peynaud. Later, the company was managed by various mixed companies - how can we forget the Agnellis in controlling the majority shareholding - and then today it is once again entirely in the hands of the Mentzelopoulos family, with Corinne replacing her father André who died in 1980. With an annual production that amounts to 150 thousand bottles of Château Margaux, flanked by 200 thousand of Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux and about 35 thousand of Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux, every time you have the opportunity to uncork a bottle of Château Margaux it is an exceptional and unforgettable event to say the least, which certainly does not happen frequently.
