Krug
In the heart of the Champagne region in France, stands the majestic House of Krug, a name that evokes timeless luxury and refinement. Founded in 1843, Krug has been synonymous with excellence since its inception, a house that has cultivated an unrivaled reputation for creating Champagnes of rare power and complexity. Krug's philosophy is rooted in the belief that each bottle should represent the pinnacle of the art of sparkling wine, a sensory journey in which every nuance is a tribute to tradition and innovation.
In Krug's vineyards, the harmony between the grape varieties grown is fundamental to the distinctive character of their Champagnes. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier are selected with obsessive care to create wines that powerfully express the personality of the champenoise terroir. The Grande Cuvée, the emblem of the House, is a celebration of over 120 wines from ten or more different vintages, a mosaic of aromas and flavors that evolves into a symphony of elegance and depth. On the other hand, the Clos du Mesnil enhances the purity of Chardonnay, offering an experience of extraordinary longevity and finesse.
Every sip of Krug is an invitation to discover the mastery of a savoir-faire passed down from generation to generation. Allow yourself the pleasure of exploring the prestigious Krug labels on Vino45, and let yourself be transported to a world of sparkling wine excellence, where each glass is a work of art that tells the story of a passion without borders.

THE WINE
Every year, since its foundation, the Maison Krug creates a new edition of Krug Grande Cuvée to offer the most generous expression of Champagne. The 171eme Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, a blend of 195 wines selected from 12 different years. The youngest dates back to 2014, while the oldest is from 1998. The rest of approximately seven years in the Krug cellars gives this Edition a remarkable expression and elegance. Each of his glasses is the result of over 20 years of artisan excellence. To create this Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, the Chef de Caves sought to accentuate the year's varied and elegant aromatic expressions with reserve wines from different plots and 11 different vintages.
In this blend, the dynamic 2014 Pinot Noirs are sourced from a wide range of plots across the Champagne region, while the fruity and full-bodied Chardonnays were selected from terroirs in the Montagne de Reims, Sézannais and Côte des Blancs. The Meuniers from the Vallée de la Marne Rive Gauche were particularly bright, with magnificent expression of the fruit from plots in Leuvrigny. To complement these wines of the year, I selected reserve Pinot Noir from terroirs in the Montagne de Reims Sud renowned for their structure, including a 2005 Ambonnay. Reserve Chardonnays from Avize and Mesnil-sur-Oger wines from a wide range of vintages are particularly present in this blend, while the reserve Meunier wines, particularly from 2013, add freshness, intensity and a chiseled structure.
THE HOUSE
It all began in 1834, when the young Joseph Krug, a far-sighted nonconformist, who had just arrived in France from his native Germany, began working in the cellars of Jacquesson. An experience that in a few years will allow him to have a precise idea of Champagne, and that will lead him a little later, in 1843 exactly, to found a Maison of his own, in order to produce Champagne that were able to stand out without only for the most absolute quality, but also for a well-defined personality, always recognizable.
This is the story of a determined man like few others, guided by a philosophy that did not allow compromises, and who was the first to understand that the essence of Champagne is, first of all, pleasure itself. A person, Joseph Krug, who wanted to offer his customers maximum pleasure, every year, regardless of the climatic differences that each season and each harvest brought with them. The Krug style is immediately expressed thanks to careful aging in large oak barrels, and thanks to prolonged contact with the yeasts. A style that has been handed down from father to son for centuries, and which is still wonderfully unchanged today.
Since 1999, the Maison has been part of the LVMH luxury group, but the approach remains the same, that of the beginnings, unconventional, and aimed at enhancing the individuality of each single vineyard, in cuvée prestige that are renewed year after year, in the name of continuity.
And then, in addition to Krug Rosé and Millesimati, here is the Krug Brut "Grande Cuvée", to name what is the icon of the Maison, that is a Champagne that comes from 250 different vineyards, and which brings together 150 reserve wines, some of which are aged for up to 15 years. A meticulous savoir-faire, which leads to the creation of unique wines, unrepeatable Champagne, extraordinary cuvées.
