THE WINE
The Champagne Rosè Brut 'Sakura' from the house Deutz is the noble portrait of Pinot Noir. It has an austere, fine, and elegant character, with distinctive traits of delicacy and pleasantness. This Pinot Noir has been described by some critics as 'applause-worthy' for its expressive richness. Here, the finesse of the quintessential French bubble merges with the personality of a grape variety famous worldwide.
THE VINEYARD
Deutz Champagne Rosè Brut is made from 100% Pinot Noir, sourced from the Montagne de Reims and the Vallée de la Marne. The production method used is Assemblage, allowed by the regulations, which involves the addition of still red wine to create the Rosè Champagne. Deutz produces this sparkling wine by incorporating a portion of still Pinot Noir made from very old vines in the Ay area. The period of re-fermentation in the bottle and subsequent aging on the lees lasts approximately 36 months.
THE HOUSE
The House Deutz was founded in 1838 in Ay, in the Champagne region, by William Deutz and Pierre Geldermann. Coming from Aachen, the two settled in Ay and opened a small wine shop. Firmly determined to produce great wines from a particularly suited vineyard, they purchased their first parcel of land in 1838 and began producing grapes, vinifying them in their cellar. William Deutz, who had previously worked for Bollinger, contributed his expertise in grape growing and winemaking, while Pierre Geldermann managed the financial and commercial aspects of the House. In the following years, the House Deutz was forced to sell 63% of its ownership to Louis Roederer due to some failed investments in New Zealand and the United States. Over time, the House Deutz expanded by acquiring new crus, both around Ay and in the Cote des Blancs, and annually produces about 600,000 bottles of excellent Champagne. However, the owned vineyards are not enough to supply the necessary quantity of grapes, so Deutz turns to local growers with proven expertise to ensure impeccable quality of their product. With the advent of Louis Roederer, the winery was completely renovated and modernized: the musts ferment in steel barrels, each of which is carefully labeled with the parcel from which the grapes come. After that, the wines are rested in the completely underground cellar, which extends up to 60 meters below ground level. The production process of all the champagnes of the House is carried out under the supervision and responsibility of Fabrice Rosset.
