'Mareneve' by Federico Graziani is the result of an idea that is both simple and bold: to plant a vineyard at an extreme altitude to see how cold climate grape varieties respond to high-altitude volcanic soil. This 'Crystal Alchemy' combines Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Grecanico, and a small amount of Chenin Blanc and Carricante. Aromatic, extremely fresh, and salty. Brilliant.

Federico Graziani
At the foot of the imposing Etna, where the land tells stories of fire and passion, lies the winery of Federico Graziani. A former internationally renowned sommelier, Graziani chose Sicily, and in particular, the slopes of the most active volcano in Europe to create wines that embody the essence of mountain viticulture. Here, nature reigns and offers a unique volcanic soil that, along with the altitude, gives the grapes unparalleled characteristics.
The vineyards of Federico Graziani, tended with almost obsessive attention, welcome indigenous varieties such as Nerello Mascalese and Carricante. These grapes, thanks to the influence of the Etna climate and the expertise of the former sommelier, transform into wines that speak of the territory with sincerity and vigor. Among his creations stands out "Profumo di Vulcano," a label that embodies the strength and complexity of the place, releasing aromas that evoke the warm breath of the earth and the cool embrace of the mountain.
The production of Graziani is a hymn to authenticity, where a respectful approach to nature blends with the pursuit of elegance and depth. Every sip is a journey through the mineral and floral nuances that only this corner of Sicily can offer.
Immerse yourself in the world of Federico Graziani and discover on Vino45 the wine treasures that arise from Etna, an invitation to explore a unique and fascinating terroir through wines that are its soul and heart.

THE WINE
'Mareneve' by Federico Graziani is the result of an idea that is as simple as it is bold: to plant a vineyard at an extreme altitude to see how cold climate grape varieties react to high altitude volcanic soil. THE COMPANY
Born in Ravenna in the mid-1970s, Federico Graziani has been passionate about wine since he was very young, to the point that at just 15 years old, in 1990 to be precise, he attended his first sommelier course, starting a journey that would see him become a professional sommelier at only 19 years old. In 1998, he achieved definitive recognition, winning the competition for “Best Sommelier in Italy” at the age of 23. Following that, he received confirmations of his great talent, collaborating with the most important chefs and restaurateurs throughout the Peninsula. And then there are his writings, with the publication of the books “Great Wines from Small Wineries” and “Author Wines”. Then came science, with his enrollment and subsequent graduation in viticulture and oenology, obtained in 2006. Since 2012, as area manager for central-northern Italy of Feudi di San Gregorio, Federico Graziani has truly become an important figure in the wine world, one of the few who can boast multifaceted skills, knowledge, and experiences in various sectors of oenology. Thus, it was only natural for him to gain experience as a winemaker and producer, which brings us directly to the slopes of Etna, in Castiglione di Sicilia, in the province of Catania, in the “Contrada Feudo di Mezzo” of Passopisciaro. We are about 700 meters above sea level: vineyards cultivated in the bush method average 75 years of age, although it is not uncommon to encounter century-old vines. The work between the rows is entirely manual, with no pesticides or systemic treatments used, and the grapes only know copper and sulfur. Balanced, rich, and concentrated bunches arrive in the winery to be enhanced, highlighting all the nuances that the season and territory have shaped in the fruit. For fermentation, only indigenous yeasts are used, while aging takes place in small wooden barrels that are never new, lasting no more than 12-14 months. Thus, “Profumo di Vulcano” is born, which along with Rosso dell’Etna, represents the two labels that Federico Graziani currently produces. Two wines that tell the most beautiful stories of Sicily's gentle giant, that volcano which, from an oenological perspective, has been providing enormous satisfaction for years and will continue to provide even greater rewards.
