The Dolomiti IGT Merlot “MCMLVII” 2019 by Alois Lageder originates from a 1995 intuition of Luis von Dellemann, who, facing grapes of exceptional quality from the Punggl vineyard in Magrè, decided to vinify them in purity. The name refers to Roman numerals. Spontaneous fermentation, with varying percentages of whole clusters, takes place in steel or wood, followed by one year in small barrels and further bottle aging. The bouquet is broad and complex with notes of ripe plum, sloe, myrtle, black truffle, and undergrowth. On the palate it is enveloping, elegant, with integrated tannins and perfect balance of freshness and sapidity, ideal with red meats, game, and aged cheeses.

THE WINE
The Dolomiti IGT Merlot “MCMLVII” 2019 by Alois Lageder originates from a 1995 intuition of Luis von Dellemann, who, facing grapes of exceptional quality from the Punggl vineyard in Magrè, decided to vinify them in purity. The name refers to Roman numerals. Spontaneous fermentation, with varying percentages of whole clusters, takes place in steel or wood, followed by one year in small barrels and further bottle aging. On the palate it is enveloping, elegant, with integrated tannins and perfect balance of freshness and sapidity, ideal with red meats, game, and aged cheeses.
THE COMPANY

A true synonym for excellence, Alois Lageder has over the years showcased the best that Alto Adige can express in terms of personality, elegance, and territorial adherence. This result is born from a clear vision of their work, where every activity is closely linked to the others in a virtuous circle that has culminated in the conversion of their vineyards to biodynamics.
Founded in 1823 and now in its sixth generation, the company stands out for its ability to blend tradition and innovation: “quality is always the result of many details, sometimes even minimal ones,” recalls Alois Lageder, “and in all phases of production, we first and foremost seek harmony among all the factors involved, working in harmony with nature.” It is no coincidence that each wine, more than most others in the region, is able to tell the diverse characteristics of its vineyard of origin - Alto Adige is indeed a land extremely rich in soil variety, microclimatic zones, and exposures, offering ideal conditions for producing wines with marked individuality. The grapes harvested from the family's vineyards, about 50 hectares between Magrè, Cortaccia, Termeno, and the area of Lake Caldaro, are cultivated using certified organic and biodynamic methods by Demeter. Additionally, the company collaborates with a number of trusted winegrowers from various areas of Alto Adige, with vineyards collectively extending over another 110 hectares, about a quarter of which are cultivated according to biodynamic principles.
It is from this extraordinary context that wines are born, true ambassadors of the territory, captivating whites and reds that comprise an assortment made up of three quality levels: the Classics, the Terroir Selections, and the Masi.
