The Chianti Classico from Isole e Olena is a red wine made from Sangiovese, Canaiolo, and Syrah grapes, hand-picked on the hills of Barberino Val d’Elsa, in the province of Florence. This red is a great expression and enhancement of the Tuscan land. It is then aged for 12 months in barriques and other barrels of various sizes before being bottled. The bouquet is fruity and floral, with notes of violets, roses, and cherries. On the palate, it is fresh, energetic, and dynamic, with dense and balanced tannins. Long finish, good freshness, and a seductive retro-olfaction.

Isole e Olena

In the picturesque setting of the Tuscan hills, among the intense aromas of the vineyards and the song of cypresses touching the sky, stands the Isole e Olena winery, a true gem of the Chianti Classico. The history of this winery is one of an oenological renaissance, a symbol of the rebirth of Chianti, where tradition and innovation intertwine to create wines that embody the elegance and authenticity of the region.
The beating heart of Isole e Olena's production is the Chianti Classico region, a place where nature expresses itself through a mosaic of soils and microclimates, perfectly suited to the cultivation of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Here, the meeting of respect for viticultural traditions and an innovative approach to winemaking gives rise to labels of extraordinary quality.
The production philosophy of Isole e Olena is based on a wise balance between traditional and modern techniques, allowing the best expression of the potential of the cultivated varieties. Sangiovese, the symbolic grape of Tuscany, finds one of its highest expressions here, producing wines with a decisive character and remarkable longevity. Alongside it, Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure and complexity, contributing to the creation of wines of great elegance and harmony.
Among the winery's gems, Cepparello stands out, a cult label for wine enthusiasts. This Supertuscan embodies the essence of Chianti Classico, with its enveloping aromas of ripe red fruits, spices, and a slight balsamic touch. On the palate, it reveals complexity and persistence, making it an ideal companion for the most special moments, capable of gracefully evolving over time.
We invite all wine lovers to discover the elegant creations of Isole e Olena on Vino45, a sensory journey through the gentle Tuscan hills, where every sip tells a story of passion, tradition, and innovation.

THE WINE
The Chianti Classico from Isole e Olena is a red wine made from Sangiovese, Canaiolo, and Syrah grapes, hand-harvested on the hills of Barberino Val d’Elsa, in the province of Florence. THE COMPANY

Isole e Olena represents one of the most important wine-growing realities of Chianti Classico, where it stands as a faithful and skilled interpreter. The winery is located within the municipality of Barberino Val d’Elsa, halfway between Florence and Siena, where in 1956 the De Marchi family, of Piedmontese origin, purchased this property whose name derives from the nearby locations of Isole and Olena. The year 1976 marked a turning point when Paolo De Marchi, a young winemaker returning from an experience in Napa Valley, took over the wine-growing and winemaking leadership of the estate, starting to experiment with the planting of international varieties while simultaneously focusing on pure Sangiovese, which at the time was counter-trend compared to the popular "Chianti formula" that involved the addition of other black and white grape varieties. Thus, in 1980, ‘Cepparello’ was born, a label that has written the history of the winery and the territory, becoming one of the symbols of the enological renaissance of Chianti. In 2022, the property was acquired by the French family group Epi.
The 56 hectares of vineyards belonging to the Tuscan winery Isole e Olena are located at an altitude between 350 and 490 meters above sea level, on soils characterized by an abundant presence of clay, galestro, and sandstone. Alongside the indigenous varieties Sangiovese and Canaiolo, the estate cultivates international grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Viognier. Harvesting is done by hand with careful selection of the clusters, and after fermentation, carried out in steel tanks and oak vats, the masses predominantly age in first or subsequent passage barriques.
The wines of Isole e Olena are of sublime elegance and class, representing the highest territorial expressions, as in the case of ‘Cepparello’, Chianti Classico, and Vin Santo, or they are pioneering in showcasing the potential vocation of the area towards international grape varieties, as in the case of the ‘Collezione Privata’ line. Beyond the specific label, the bottles of Isole e Olena fully reflect the style and skill of their creator, Paolo De Marchi.
