The Gavi 'Monterotondo' from Villa Sparina is one of the flagship labels of the winery, the highest expression of Gavi, produced in a limited number of bottles exclusively with the best grapes from the old vines of the namesake cru. The Monterotondo parcel has always been known for producing superior quality clusters. It is an elegant and refined Cortese, endowed with a long aging potential, aged for at least 2 years in steel and wood in the historic cellars. It has a seductive bouquet with its aromas of apricot, acacia flowers, hints of spices, and a typical chalky note. On the palate, it is balanced, harmonious, and complex, imbued with freshness and minerality, fading into aromatic hints. It is a glass that perfectly interprets the terroir of Gavi.

THE WINE
The Gavi 'Monterotondo' by Villa Sparina is one of the flagship labels of the winery, the highest expression of Gavi, made in a limited number of bottles exclusively from the best grapes coming from the old vines of the namesake cru. The Monterotondo parcel has always been known for producing superior quality bunches. It is an elegant and refined Cortese, endowed with a long aging potential, aged for at least 2 years in steel and wood in the historic cellars. Seductive bouquet with its aromas of apricot, acacia flowers, hints of spices, and a typical chalky note. On the palate, it is balanced, harmonious, and complex, imbued with freshness and minerality, fading into aromatic recalls. It is a glass that perfectly interprets the terroir of Gavi.
To tell the story of Villa Sparina, the best starting point is its cellars: the large vaults dating back to the 18th century that extend into the underground of the Estate are a living testimony of its winemaking past and how this vocation continues to be expressed in its bottles today. The Villa, once owned by the Marchesi Franzoni of Genoa, experienced a new winemaking momentum when it was purchased by the Moccagatta family in 1954, transforming it into a true gem among the hills of Monterotondo. The estate's first vintage dates back to 1974, and since then its production has been characterized by a strong commitment to uncompromising quality, allowing it to define a clear identity with every sip.
Villa Sparina has around 100 hectares of property surrounding the estate, of which about 65 are under vine surrounded by woods. Here, under the sun's rays and caressed by breezes from the Ligurian Sea, the native varieties of Cortese and Barbera ripen, which, thanks to modern and creative winemaking processes, give rise to elegant, surprising, and long-lived production, which over the years has become the best representation of the Winery. The Moccagatta family has indeed rebuilt the strong historical identity of the Villa, drawing from its past and laying the foundations for a solid future.
The unmistakable and territorial style of Villa Sparina is reflected not only in the continuous pursuit of excellence vintage after vintage but also - literally - in its bottles. Their particular shape, inspired by ancient bottles found during the renovation of the Estate, is fully dedicated to substance: round yet with a good structure, harmonious and characteristic like the nectar they hold. Even the choice of color is not left to chance but recalls the typical hue of ripening Cortese grapes and confirms the strongest of the philosophies of the Villa: wine is a creative principle. Strong in this belief, the winery has been able to invest technically in its continuous innovation, constantly seeking to honor the vineyard and its fruits.
