THE WINE

The Leonia Brut 2020 is a vintage sparkling wine made using the Classic Method, celebrating the sparkling wine tradition of the Frescobaldi family in the territory of Pomino, one of the most suited areas of Tuscany due to its altitude and cool climate. Produced with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grown at over 700 meters s.l.m., it ages on the lees for 36 months after the second fermentation, acquiring great finesse and complexity. In appearance, it shows a brilliant straw yellow with very fine bubbles. On the nose, it offers notes of bread crust, white flowers, citrus, and toasted almond. The taste is lively, creamy, and elegant, with a long and mineral finish. A sparkling wine of great personality, perfect for refined toasts or paired with delicate fish dishes and vegetarian cuisine.

THE COMPANY

No other Italian winery can boast the history, prestige, and vision of the Marchesi Frescobaldi. A Florentine family dedicated for thirty generations and for 700 years to the production of great wines, with the constant goal of being the most prestigious producer in Tuscany. A reality that has always believed in respecting the territory, focusing on the excellence of its grapes, investing in communication and the professionalism of human resources while never forgetting the respect for tradition and openness to research and experimentation. In 1855, they were the first in Tuscany to plant Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay in the estates of Nipozzano and Pomino. In 1894, they built in Pomino, a locality not far from Florence, the first Italian winery capable of using natural gravity for transferring from barrels and distinguished themselves, during the same period, for the introduction of “specialized vineyards.” In 1989, they acquired the estate of Castelgiocondo in Montalcino and in 1995 inaugurated the Tenuta Luce della Vite in Montalcino, to which was added in 2000 the Tenuta Conti Attems in Friuli. The latest bright projects involve the control of the Tenuta dell’Ornellaia in Bolgheri in 2005, and in 2011 the inauguration of the very modern winery of Ammiraglia in Maremma. All the wines labeled “Marchesi Frescobaldi” come from passion, experience, skill, and love for an elected territory, Tuscany, which has become the ideal cradle for wines of the highest quality. With a vineyard area that currently approaches one thousand hectares, and an annual production of around seven million bottles, from the Chianti area to Pomino, from Montalcino to Maremma, the perfect knowledge of the environment and the uniqueness of the terroirs ensure a constant quality and distinctive personality of the wines, all - without exception - exceptional.
