It is a great expression of Riserva from the most historic area of Chianti, the Classico. The color is typical, bright and dark ruby with a tendency towards garnet at the rim. It is vertical on the nose, where the fruit notes concentrate, leading to mineral tones. It remains crisp due to freshness and sapidity, rendered thicker by the fine roughness of the tannins.

THE WINE
The Chianti Classico Riserva 'Monsenese' from San Leonino is a Sangiovese that comes from the Monsenese vineyard in San Leonino in Castellina in Chianti. A great expression of Riserva from the most historic area of Chianti, the Classico. The color is typical, bright and dark ruby with a tendency towards garnet at the edge. Vertical on the nose, where the fruit notes concentrate to give way to mineral tones. It remains crisp due to its freshness and sapidity, made denser by the fine roughness of the tannins.
THE ESTATE
The Farm of San Leonino has been producing wine since the Pieve from which it takes its name and to which it belonged, became part of the Chianti League.
The piviere of San Leonino in Conio (the set of lands annexed to the church) is mentioned in several documents, the first dated 1043, 1076, and 1077. At that time, it was part of the diocese of Fiesole but, being located at the border between Florence, Siena, and Volterra, it was always at the center of disputes to control it. So much so that the Farm annexed to the Borgo and located in a strategic area, on a hill washed by the Staggia stream and the Gena ditch, enjoyed a very prosperous economic situation, as evidenced by the “tithes” paid between 1275 and 1300.
At the end of all the territorial disputes between Florence and Siena, the church definitively entered the Florentine state and became one of the cornerstones of the Chianti League, as appears from the statute of 1384.
In the last 50 years, various commercial properties have followed one another. Until the arrival in 1994 of the Angelini family, the current owner of the Bertani Domains wine group, of which San Leonino is a part.
The first bottle of Chianti Classico we find on the market is from 1973.
San Leonino now covers a total area of 100 hectares, of which 52 are cultivated as vineyards and 6 as olive groves. The estate is located in the municipality of Castellina in Chianti, near the small medieval village that rises around the Romanesque Church of San Leonino, from which it takes its name and logo (which is the stylized reproduction of the terminal part of the bell tower, where the bell is housed).
