The Bolgheri Superiore 'Ornellaia' 2021 from Tenuta Ornellaia, “La Generosità”, reflects a typically Bolgheri vintage, marked by sun and scarce rains, which has given rise to wines that are rich, concentrated, and expressive. On the nose, Mediterranean scrub, aromatic herbs, cypress berries, and dark fruits anticipate an intense sip, with dense tannins and great finesse. The finish is persistent, vibrant, with a long aromatic freshness. The grapes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot are hand-picked in 15 kg crates, selected on two sorting tables, then vinified separately in stainless steel and concrete tanks at controlled temperature. This is followed by an aging of 18 months in French oak barriques, and then an additional period of blending and resting in the bottle for 12 months. Elegant and long-lived, it pairs well with red meats, game, and aged cheeses.

Ornellaia

In the suggestive setting of Tuscany, among the gentle hills of Bolgheri, stands the legendary winery Ornellaia, a name that resonates with elegance and power. Founded in an exceptional terroir, Ornellaia represents one of the most prestigious labels in Italy, where the unique microclimate and mineral-rich soils create the ideal conditions for the cultivation of noble grapes. Here, the varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot find their maximum expression, giving life to wines that embody Bordeaux style with an artistic touch in every vintage.
The production philosophy of Ornellaia is a perfect balance between tradition and innovation, where meticulous attention to every detail blends with a contemporary approach to winemaking. The vineyards are cared for with dedication, respecting the ecosystem and enhancing biodiversity, to ensure that every bottle tells the story of the territory with authenticity and passion. The winery stands out for its ability to combine power and finesse, creating wines that impress with their aromatic complexity and depth of flavors.
Among the main labels, Ornellaia and Le Serre Nuove stand as symbols of excellence. The Ornellaia, in particular, is a masterpiece of structure and harmony, a wine that seduces with its intense aromas of dark fruits, spices, and balsamic notes, supported by velvety tannins and a persistence that seems endless. Le Serre Nuove, on the other hand, represents a more accessible yet equally captivating version, characterized by freshness and dynamism, perfect for those seeking uncompromising elegance.
We invite wine lovers to discover the magnificent creations of Ornellaia on Vino45. A sensory journey in the heart of Bolgheri, where the art of winemaking transforms into pure emotion.

THE WINE
The Bolgheri Superiore 'Ornellaia' 2021 by Tenuta Ornellaia, “La Generosità”, reflects a typically Bolgheri vintage, marked by sun and scarce rains, which has given rise to rich, concentrated, and expressive wines. On the nose, mediterranean scrub, aromatic herbs, cypress berries, and dark fruits anticipate an intense sip, with dense tannins and great fineness. The finish is persistent, vibrant, with a long aromatic freshness. The grapes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot are hand-picked in 15 kg crates, selected on two sorting tables, and then vinified separately in stainless steel and cement tanks at controlled temperature. This is followed by an aging process of 18 months in French oak barriques, and then an additional period of blending and resting in bottle for 12 months. Elegant and long-lived, it pairs with red meats, game, and aged cheeses.
THE ESTATE
It was in 1981 that Marquis Lodovico Antinori, cousin of Piero Antinori, founded the Tenuta Ornellaia, in the heart of the Bolgheri area, a few kilometers from the Mediterranean coast. With the first harvest of 1985, what would become an icon among SuperTuscans was born: the “Ornellaia”, marketed three years later, in 1988. With the inauguration of the estate, the world-renowned winemaker, Michel Rolland, began to take care of the technical side of the winery. Subsequently, in the 1990s, the other two labels were born: "Le Volte" and "Le Serre Nuove". At the beginning of the 2000s, Robert Mondavi, the great Californian producer, acquired the Tenuta, later selling 50% to the Marchesi de' Frescobaldi, who would acquire the remaining 50% just three years later. The end of the 2000s also saw the birth of the label "Poggio alle Gazze", which would be followed by the highly selective late harvest wine "Ornus", obtained from pure petit manseng grapes. A legendary winery, therefore, which deserves credit for having written the history of Bolgheri. With almost one hundred hectares of vineyards, to which another thirteen are added on lease, the Tenuta Ornellaia has always focused on a single and unique goal: quality. All decisions, all choices, take into account every single and smallest detail, and from the vineyard to the final bottling, shortcuts are not allowed. During the harvest, only the most precious and balanced bunches are selected and picked, subsequently worked separately in the winery based on their cru of origin. Then a year of resting in barrel follows, and then the composition of the blend: everything is aimed at enhancing every subtle nuance of the terroir, and at valuing the expression of each single vintage, always in respect of the continuity of what can be considered the “style Ornellaia”, synonymous with experience, competence, and determination, which translates into complexity and elegance that are hard to match in the glass.
