Mirafiore
In the heart of Piedmont, in Serralunga d’Alba, lies the renowned Mirafiore Foundation, a symbol of elegance and tradition that has always accompanied the history of the noble Barolo. This winery, once part of the Savoy family estates, has been reborn as a project that combines culture and winemaking, keeping alive the legacy of a glorious past. Here, the gentle hills of the Langhe embrace the vineyards of Nebbiolo and Barbera, the undisputed protagonists of a winemaking story that is deeply rooted in history.
The production philosophy of the Mirafiore Foundation is revealed through a classic style that respects traditions while not sacrificing timeless elegance. In the vineyards, care and attention to native varieties such as Nebbiolo translate into wines that best express the character of the Piedmontese terroir. The Barolo Paiagallo, the flagship label of the winery, represents a refined interpretation of this great wine, celebrated for its complex structure and enveloping aromas that evolve over time.
We invite true connoisseurs and wine enthusiasts to discover on Vino45 the labels of the Mirafiore Foundation, a sensory journey through tradition, history, and the authenticity of Piedmontese Barolo, for a tasting experience that fascinates and captivates.

THE COMPANY
The story of the brand known as Mirafiore is one of the most fascinating and troubled tales of the Langhe. It all started in 1858 when a “command act of the royal delegate” registered a parcel of 52 hectares in the heart of the Langhe, between Sorano, Fontanafredda, and Gallareto, at the Municipal office of Serralunga d’Alba. A winery that then bore the name of its founder - the Count of Mirafiore, Emanuele Guerrieri, son of Vittorio Emanuele II and the famous Bela Rosin - and that experienced extraordinary success until the beginning of World War I. Subsequently, around 1930, mismanagement combined with the arrival of phylloxera led to its downfall. At the subsequent auction, the credit institution Monte dei Paschi di Siena acquired the Tenuta of Fontanafredda, while the brand Mirafiore was purchased by the Gancia family from Canelli. Thus, a few years later, the brand Fontanafredda was born, named after the location where it was based, and which in the following decades would literally make the history of modern Barolo. During this period, various attempts were made to reacquire the original brand, but without success. It is only recently, more precisely in 2009 thanks to the intervention of Eataly founder Oscar Farinetti, that it was finally possible to revive what was one of the great wines of Barolo and more specifically of Serralunga d’Alba. A line of the highest quality, made with great attention both in the vineyard and in the cellar, where every practice best combines the Langhe tradition with the most contemporary winemaking techniques. The wines, Dolcetto, Barbera, and Nebbiolo, leading up to the great Barolo, are all characterized by a pronounced elegance, an excellent demonstration of a company perfectly in tune with the times, looking forward to the upcoming harvests with great confidence.
