The Marsala Superiore Secco “SS1516” 2016 from Florio is made from pure Grillo grapes, harvested at perfect ripeness in the second half of September in the coastal vineyards of Marsala. This Marsala Secco Superiore is born on sandy soils battered by sea winds. The winemaking involves fermentation with indigenous yeasts and the addition of wine alcohol to stop the fermentation, preserving structure and verticality. The wine ages from December 15, 2016, in the only 15DAG barrel made of Allier oak, in the historic Cantina Garibaldi, just 134 meters from the sea. After over 8 years of maturation, it reveals a tense and dry profile, with notes of dried fruit, medicinal herbs, fine spices, and a salty touch. Limited and numbered edition, it is perfect with aged cheeses, oysters, bottarga or as a meditation wine.

Florio
The history of the Florio winery dates back to 1833, when Vincenzo Florio, a man of vision and courage, decided to embark on a winemaking journey that would indelibly mark the history of Sicilian wine. Located in the beautiful setting of Sicily, a land of contrasts and wild beauty, Florio is more than just a winery: it is a symbol of tradition and innovation that has won the palates of people all over the world with its Marsala.
Marsala, a fortified wine that bears the name of the city where it was born, is an authentic enological gem that encapsulates the essence of Sicily. The gentle hills and mild climate of the island provide the ideal conditions for the cultivation of Grillo and Catarratto grapes, indigenous varieties that give Marsala its unique and unmistakable character. The Florio winery stands out for its production that follows traditional methods, respecting the rhythms of nature and enhancing every nuance of the Sicilian terroir.
Every bottle of Marsala Florio is a symphony of aromas and flavors: from the warm and enveloping notes of dried fruit and vanilla, to the spicy and balsamic hints that enhance its complexity. It is a wine that adapts to multiple occasions, from solitary meditation to the conviviality of a shared lunch, and it manages to impress with its versatility.

Color: clear and brilliant amber, with intense golden reflections that denote evolution and long aging in wood. The visual density is significant but not opulent, showing a coherence between structure and freshness.
Bouquet: complex and penetrating. It opens with notes of dried fruit – particularly toasted almond and walnut – followed by hints of herbal notes such as rosemary and dried sage. Spicy accents of white pepper and cinnamon emerge, woven with a salty and iodine touch, reflecting the influence of the sea and the proximity of Cantina Garibaldi to the coast.
Taste: dry, taut, and vertical, with a sharp and salty attack. The sip is supported by a surprising freshness for the type, accompanying a broad but lean structure. The wood notes are perfectly integrated and give way to returns of fine spices, candied citrus, and an elegant bitter aftertaste. The persistence is very long, with a clean and sharp finish that invites contemplation.
Overall Rating: 87/100
