Chile

Wine arrived in Chile in 1556, brought by the Spanish. After the advent of phylloxera, when the parasite hit European vineyards decimating their production, the country began to export its wines in large quantities, thanks to the importation of the most important French vines of the time (Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc). Once the phylloxera crisis was overcome, exports collapsed again until the 1990s where the arrival of experts and technology increased the quality and quantity enormously, making it one of the world's leading wine producers.
