Pignolo

Pignolo is a black grape variety of ancient Friulian origins. It is an ancient vine, the earliest records of which date back to 1300-1400, in some publications, and which testify for the Pignolo a spot spread in the hilly area of Rosazzo. In the following century there was a progressive abandonment of the Pignolo, very sensitive to powdery mildew and with little vigor. The name Pignolo derives from "pine cone", and there are many vines whose name has this root, often confused with one another.

'Pignoli' by Radikon is a red wine from Collio, powerful and of great vigor obtained from Pignolo grapes, difficult to tame in the vineyard and which require care in the cellar. Young vines grown without the aid of any chemical or synthetic substance. The wine is placed in oak barrels, where it will refine for 5 years. No clarification or filtration. It fascinates from the first moment: it ranges from ripe plum to clove, from cinnamon to blackberry jam, from black pepper to mentholated hints. Vigorous, elegant taste with silky tannins. It requires patience. Wine made as it once was with artisanal methods. Complexity and rarity. Bottle for enthusiasts.

Pignolo by La Tunella is an intense and structured wine, obtained from the vinification of the autochthonous red grape variety of the same name. In recent decades, with the renewed interest in native varieties, it has found space in the vineyard, with clones recovered from some old vines of the Rosazzo Abbey. The long aging in wood, at least 4 years and a further year in the bottle, allows the wine to sweeten and present an intense, rich sip, with evolved and complex aromas. The bouquet expresses aromas of soft spices, red fruit jam, fruit in alcohol, hints of humus and undergrowth, hints of bitter cocoa and tobacco. Important body, dense and complex aromas, which accompany the sip towards a fresh and very persistent finish. Excellent accompaniment to meat dishes.
