THE WHISKY

Single Malt Scotch Whisky 'Tormore' Connoisseurs Choice 1994 by Gordon & Macphail was distilled in 1994 and bottled in 2022. Aging 27 YO in ex-Sherry casks. Near the town of Ballindalloch in the heart of Speyside, the Tormore distillery was built relatively recently (1960). A whisky where vanilla aromas combine with subtle notes of baked apple and sultana grapes. Fresh citrus zest emerges next, giving way to hints of brown sugar and oak. On the palate, sweet and velvety notes of apple pie are followed by orange peel. Warm spices, milk chocolate, and charred oak. A finish with persistent sweetness that yields to notes of black pepper. A whisky for connoisseurs. Cask strength 57.2° vol.

THE DISTILLERY

The town of Elgin, in the northeast of Scotland, is considered “the world capital of whisky.” It is here that in 1895 Gordon & Macphail was founded by James Gordon and John Alexander McPhail. Their insight was to combine the typical “drugstore” with a wine and spirits shop, merging two distinct commercial activities and effectively becoming pioneers in the single malt market outside the highlands. Their choices quickly proved to be more than accurate: by selecting and purchasing the best new whiskies directly from the producer, then aging them in the finest casks and finally bottling them at the right moment, Gordon & Macphail dominated the single malt market during the thirty years from 1955 to 1985, becoming recognized for its complex and elegant style. Today, the company, capitalizing on the excellent relationships it has established with all Scottish distilleries, finds itself with an immense and diversified reserve of whisky in its warehouses, and continues to be present in the market with prestige and authority.
