Graham’s
In the vibrant heart of Portugal, among the gentle hills of the Douro, lies the legendary Graham’s, one of the historic English houses of Port. For centuries, this winery has been a symbol of excellence and tradition, a shining beacon in the landscape of fortified wines. The story of Graham’s is a symphony of flavors and aromas, a saga that has spanned entire generations, maintaining its reputation as a producer of rich and intense Port, perfect for aging.
The vineyards of Graham’s stretch across a privileged territory, where the climate and soil combine perfectly for the growth of Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz grapes. These varieties, cultivated with skill and dedication, are the lifeblood of the prestigious Port wines of the winery. The designation of Port translates into an enological heritage that Graham’s has been able to enhance with a production philosophy that combines tradition and innovation, always in search of perfection.
The wines of Graham’s are authentic works of liquid art. The Vintage Port, with its imposing structure and complex aromas, is a sensory journey that evolves beautifully over time, while the LBV (Late Bottled Vintage) is a warming embrace, rich in ripe fruit and spices, perfect for those seeking an immediate and satisfying experience. Each sip is a story, an invitation to explore the depth and richness of the Portuguese terroir.

THE WINE
The Port '20 Years Old Tawny' by W. & J. Graham's is the perfect mix of young and mature Port. The 20 years is indeed the result of the endless efforts of the Master Blender to create a harmonious wine, with a wide bouquet of dried and ripe fruits. On the palate, it is irresistible: rich, soft, and velvety, it is perfectly balanced with a long and persistent finish.
THE TAWNY PORT
After a 3-year aging in large barrels, the wine is transferred to barriques to stimulate its maturation. In small wood, the wine oxidizes much faster and takes on spicy aromas. As the red color fades and turns amber, the oxidation and evolved tones become more intense while maintaining its freshness. Tawny Ports can age for 10, 20, 30, or even 40 years in cask.
THE COMPANY
The history of the W. & J. Graham's winery dates back over two centuries, during which the two families that have written its pages have become known for their ability to produce exceptional Ports.
The adventure of the Graham's in Portugal began with brothers William and John, textile merchants, who at the dawn of the second decade of the 19th century, in 1820 to be exact, decided to accept barrels of Port as payment, which is why they also initiated a flourishing wine trade with Scotland, their homeland. About seventy years later, in 1890, they had the insight to expand their business by directly investing in vineyards and land in the Douro Valley, thus acquiring the property of Quinta dos Malvedos, from where the best grapes in the area come. That same year, the famous Graham’s Lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia was also inaugurated, used to store the barrels and age the Ports according to their type.
Today, the name of the Graham's family is only connected to the historic brand of the company, but the winery is actually owned and managed by another Scottish family: the Symingtons. The latter acquired the property in 1970, an exceptional vintage that is considered by every expert to be one of the best in the entire history of Port. The Symingtons also have a century-old history in the Douro Valley, so they can ensure that the tradition and pioneering spirit of the founders are maintained in the production of their Port, remaining, moreover, the only winery still owned by a single Anglo-Saxon family.
This is how the Ports branded “W. & J. Graham's” are created: from White Port to Ruby, from Tawny to Late Bottled Vintage (LBV), to the most aged and prestigious Ports, all of which refer back to the winery in Vila Nova de Gaia, among the best currently available on the market.
