THE HOUSE
Everything began in 1743 when Claude Moët founded a Maison bearing his name after a long experience first as a vigneron and later as a cellarmaster. He started distributing his wines in Paris, outside the Champagne region, at a time that coincided with the growing demand for sparkling wine: the success was immediate, so much so that soon Moët Champagne became the most appreciated at the court of the King of France and by the end of the 18th century was exported throughout Europe and the United States. Growth continued with his grandson Jean Remy, who acquired new land, expanded the cellars, and built a true commercial network that reached famous clients like Thomas Jefferson and Napoleon Bonaparte. Later, Remy would hand over the leadership of Moët to his son Victor and son-in-law Pierre Gabriel Chandon, from whom the current name of the house, Moët & Chandon Champagne, is derived.
