Champagne Extra Brut 'Extra Old' (750 ml. boxed) - Veuve Clicquot

Champagne Extra Brut 'Extra Old' by Veuve Clicquot is a classic blend made with Pinot Noir, Meunier and Chardonnay, coming from 20 different selected crus of the estate. For its realization, high percentages of reserve wines are used, which allow to keep the particularly rich, intense and aromatically mature taste the same over time. It rests on the lees for 36 months. Floral and fruity aromas in harmonious expressive balance that end in a vibrant finish of freshness and a typically mineral tone. A Champagne that sums up the Veuve Clicquot style well.

It all began in 1772, when Philippe Clicquot, a businessman and landowner, founded "a négoce de vin à l'enseigne Clicquot". A small company, which aspires to go beyond borders to make the new name of Champagne known to the whole world. In 1798, François Clicquot, son of the founder of the Maison, married Barbe Nicole Ponsardin. It will be the latter who, after having inherited from her husband all the passion and all the skills for the production and marketing of Champagne, will be able to grow the company until it becomes one of the most famous and renowned Maison not only in the area of Reims, but of the whole Champagne region. Barbe Nicole Ponsardin, in fact, widowed at the age of twenty-seven, after the death of her husband firmly took over the reins of the company, becoming in fact one of the first great female entrepreneurs in modern history, known by all with the nickname of "widow Clicquot ”, Or“ Veuve Clicquot ”, hence the name of the Maison itself.

Under the guidance of the young widow, some insights were learned that benefited the whole denomination. From the first vintage Champagne, that of 1810, to the perfecting of the remuage technique, passing through the development of the liqueur de tirage useful for the second refermentation in the bottle, there is no expectation that she did not follow it personally.

Without forgetting, then, his great commercial ability, thanks to which Barbe Nicole Ponsardin herself managed in 1814 to overcome the continental block that immobilized Europe in mercantile exchanges, making her Champagne land directly in Russia, in St. Petersburg, with what today is not surprisingly known as the “cuvée Saint Petersbourg”.

A story of excellence, in short, which currently, under the sign of the luxury group LVMH owner of the Maison since 1986, continues thanks to Champagne with a unique personality, always recognizable in their immediate elegance and their extraordinary refinement.
