THE ESTATE
Owner of Quinta do Pessegueiro in the Douro for over 25 years, Roger Zannier enthusiastically took on the challenge of transforming the Château de Saint-Maur into one of the most deserving sites in Provence, entrusting the fate of this Provençal jewel to his son-in-law, Marc Monrose. Located in Cogolin, just 10 km from Saint-Tropez, to the west of the plain that connects the foothills of the imposing Maures massif to the sea. In the distance, on top of its hill, rise the ruins of the Grimaud castle. At its foot are its crowded houses, and then the vines that cover the hills amidst Mediterranean scrub and cork oaks.
This oasis of peace in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez is situated in an ideal location, where the vine has always thrived. The main crops of the estate are Rolle, Syrah, Cinsault, and Grenache.
Protected from the north by the Mistral and from the west by the mountainous mass of the Maures, and characterized by favorable ventilation, the entire vineyard is exposed to the East-West. Sheltered from the winds but subject to the maritime influence of the adjacent sea, the estate covers an area of 54 hectares, 38 of which are cultivated. The predominantly limestone clay soil covers the slopes of the hills, gradually rising to the edge of the fir trees, towards Collobrières.
Cultivated using ecological methods, the vines undergo extensive soil work, especially in the summer, according to the principle well-known to all gardeners: "plowing once is better than watering twice."
An exceptional terroir, in an excellent position, a unique site. The Château de Saint-Maur, Cru Classé, best expresses the excellence of the territory, and its owners have great hopes and expectations for this illustrious and famous corner of Provence.
