THE WINE
The Rosé 'L'Excellence' from Château Saint-Maur is part of the high-end wine collection from this splendid French domaine, located near Cogolin, in the first hinterland of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. The label is made from excellent quality grapes of Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Rolle, Mourvèdre, and Cabernet Sauvignon, vinified with great care and delicacy to produce a refined and elegant wine that expresses the sunny and Mediterranean characteristics of an extraordinary terroir. A floral and fruity rosé, fragrant and briny, reminiscent of its marine nature and offering the finesse of a Cru Classé from the Appellation Côtes de Provence. The grapes undergo a cold maceration followed by very soft pressing to extract only the free-run juice, with vinification carried out in white. The bouquet is very refined, with subtle floral aromas, hints of white peach, ripe citrus, pink grapefruit, notes of raspberry, and tropical fruits, particularly lychee, mango, and passion fruit. Harmonious, delicate, and smooth, it offers a pleasantly soft and fruity sip, well balanced by vibrant freshness and a savory finish that recalls its marine nature.
THE ESTATE
Owner of Quinta do Pessegueiro in the Douro for over 25 years, Roger Zannier enthusiastically took on the challenge of transforming the Château of Saint-Maur into one of the most deserving sites in Provence, entrusting the fate of this Provençal jewel to his son-in-law, Marc Monrose. Located in Cogolin, just 10 km from Saint-Tropez, to the west of the plain that connects the feet of the impressive Maures massif to the sea. In the distance, atop its hill, rise the ruins of Grimaud Castle. At its feet are the crowded houses, and then the vines that cover the hills between the Mediterranean scrub and cork oaks.
This peaceful oasis in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez is situated in an ideal location where the vine has always thrived. The main cultivations of the estate are those of Rolle, Syrah, Cinsault, and Grenache.
Protected from the north winds by the Maures mountain range to the west and characterized by favorable ventilation, the entire vineyard is exposed to the East-West. Sheltered from the winds but subject to the maritime influence of the adjacent sea, the estate covers an area of 54 hectares, 38 of which are cultivated. The predominantly calcareous clay soil covers the slopes of the hills, rising gradually up to the edge of the fir trees, towards Collobrières.
Cultivated with ecological methods, the vines undergo extensive soil work, especially in the summer, according to the principle known to all gardeners: "plowing once is better than watering twice."
