The Pinot Noir 'Te Wahi' from Cloudy Bay is one of the most interesting wines from New Zealand. Grapes come from the Northburn and Calvert vineyards, cultivated in the Central Otago estate, the southernmost wine region of the New World, with a cool climate and suitable soils. The winemaking and aging techniques aim to approach the level of great French wines. It matures for 14 months in French oak barrels. A full-bodied and elegant red with a decidedly complex, intense, and smooth sip, featuring well-integrated tannins supported by notable fruity richness, with spicy and toasted hints typical of the production area, and toasted and smoky nuances brought by the long maturation in wood. An absolutely territorial and typical wine, as its name in Maori means 'the place'.
